Default Can someone ID this 8.25 SG diff?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...tem=2452669094

I bought it not knowing it could be a 2.27 or a 2.45 diff that won't acccept 3.23 or 3.55 gears like I want to run...

what do you guys think? can I run 3.55's on this or is it for 2.45's?

Do you have a standard (non-2.45) differential you can compare it to? I think what must have changed on the 2.54 diffs is that they moved the ring gear mounting surface further to the left so that the ring gear would still have enough thickness to have some strength. The pinion gear has to get pretty large to change the ratio, and the ring gear has to get thinner to compensate. YOu should be able to tell where the ring gear mounts by comparing the two. Just thinking out loud here, I'm guessing that's what changed. No reason for the ID of the ring gear to change.

Call someone like Randy's Ring & Pinion and they should be able to tell you. If it is for a 2.27 or 2.45 differential it will probably be hard to sell or maybe a road racer guy will buy it! LOL Funny the guy didn't know what it was as he has a used one for sale on Ebay now and says it's a 2.45 SG unit. He says he has sold alot of them but doesn't no exactly what they fit??? BS!

Cry SG

you're right, and the one he has on there now, unfortunately, looks VERY similar to mine, he could have said it PROBABLY was a 2.45 unit....ARGH, live and learn I guess, maybe i'll stick it in there with the 2.76 gears I have now....or maybe I can't even use 2.76's on this thing for gods sake! :chainsaw:
