Dual-carb setup...how much is too much?

Just won a dual-quad intake for my 318 Poly. Are two 600cfm Edelbrock carbs gonna be too much, should I go with the 500cfms?

Engine specifics...
Bored .040 over
Forged pistons
Cam duration 224@.050
Transmission info: stock torque converter for now, 727 torqueflight (old style), 2.76:1 rear end (ugh).

Thanks!

I myself would use a pair of 390 Holleys. Total cfm of 780. The rear end will being a low numeric number will have you tuning the carbs for a slow launch. A longer duration pump shot and slow/late opening secondarys.
If it's a Carter only bolt pattern, look for old units with the small bore. There rated @ 400 or so cfm. They came on dual quad Vettes. They could also very well have electric chokes. Thats a plus.
Your converter needs to be changed for sure. Until it's changed, launching the car will be tuffer. Rear ratio could use a change also. A numericly higher ratio will help all around.

Thanks for the reply, rumblefish.

Right now I'm concentrating on the engine...once I get that done I'll be able to toss $ at the torque converter as well as the rear end. I'm eventually going to be dropping in a 3.73:1 rear, with SureGrip. Because of where I am living right now (and island in the Gulf of Alaska), parts aren't easy to come by.

I'll look into those Holleys...thanks!

Thumbs up Cool, where did you win that?

A single 4 would be much better for you at this point, you could spend another grand around it and have quite the runner there but if it was me I would save it back for now and run what you have until you get the stuff to do the dual quad.Is it oem or aftermarket? My choice for carbs would be Holley economaster, just because I have them in stock.480 CFM and easy to tune.but the early vette 4 jets would work too.
