Motor plate/mid plate question...
My car is setup for a motor plate and a mid plate for a BB, however, I currently have regular motor mounts all around for the SB. My tranny man thought the mid plate would create problems (?) and was too rigid, so I thought I would ask opinions of everyone here. This is a 95% race car that has a ten point cage, and is only driven a couple times a year to a very local car show. Comfort is not an issue, as this car already rattles my fillings out anyway.
Are there any downsides to running a motor plate, mid plate, and a standard tranny mount? Is the problem vibration? Does it hurt the tranny or the motor or both? Thanks! Dartman |

Running just a motor plate and a tranny mount is hard on the bellhousing area. Adding a midplate makes the engine part of the chassis structure and helps to transmit the torque better/quicker. It will not hurt or damage a tranny mount.

Yeah mid-plates arnt going to hurt anything, infact the rigid structure of the Engine/Tranny should stop any sort of torsional stress issues, as it wont allow the tranny/engine to move (at all).
But yeah, if yer teeth are already chattering at idle, and that doesnt bother you, then go ahead with the midplate. When i build my next mopar (as a race car) i'll be doing the same thing. |
