i would say it is a deal... a 'plain jane' type (stock) rebuilt BB trans here is over $1200 at the parts store... with something like a $400 core charge! small block 727's run around $800 or $900... with a $300 core.

Whatever you do don't call Jeg's. They screwed over South Side Machine and they will screw you too.

That's a great price for a performance tranny. The race versions are somewhat higher though. Get one direcet from www.tciauto.com These are the only trannies we use and they are a great piece. Even if you don't get one of these, just stay far away from the b&m junk if you want it to last. You also might try Summit Racing. Most of the time they beat Jegs on pricing.

Someone on here had one with some missing parts that would not shift and had to have a local guy rebuild it again.

John Cope has an outstanding reputation and specializes in Torqueflights. Give him a call before buying an off-the-shelf unit.

That post about John Cope is the only one I have ever seen. It can happen. Were just human. I don't know the poster whom posted it.
Reguardless, John is a poster at other forums and has been nothing but a good man and great help to the MoPar family. Look him up.

Thumbs up

Once we get to that point in "Project 'Cuda" we intend to look at all our options, including Mr. Cope who was kind enough to rush us a catalog this week.

I was that guy, the valve body in my 904 was missing an accumulator piston. Also the guy at the tranny shop mentioned something about a screw being stuck in a spring, he didnt give anymore details but the missing piston was causing the internal fluid leak thus engaging first and second gear at the same time in manual low gear. I however didnt really try to force Mr Cope to make it right. The hassle of pulling the tranny, shipping it $$$ and waiting a month or so wasnt really worth it to me. Ironically enough though it might have saved me money. I didnt know that the throttle position linkage (kickdown linkage) needed to be hooked up or the tranny wouldnt last long, if that problem didnt occur with the internal fluid leak I would have probably proceeded to drive the car for months with no kickdown on, if the tranny would even last that long.

Build your old trans, you can get the tci kit from p.a.w. get a good trans rebuild guide and goto town. I just finished mine its really not that hard. I only spent about 275.00 and that sucker snatches your head off on the 1-2 shift.

If you have even driven an auto once, then you can build a torqueflight as good or better than an off the shelf TCI is!!!
All there customer money goes into advertising and little goes into the product.
Keep shopping.

I know better than that. We've run them for years and they are about the best out there. You can get even get one custom built to what you want whether it's street or a pure race only tranny.

One should separate what "they know" from their opinions and be able to recognize the difference.

My buddy just put a sb727 tci street fighter in his 69 318 pu and it seems fine. from jegs for about $900 all said and done. shipping to ca is $99. don't forget a tq converter & maybe flexplate too.

tci wanted around $300 more
summit was same as jegs just didn't have any in stock.
