What carb would be best for my setup
Hi all. First post so here goes.
I have a aussie CL Charger fitted with a 1977 318..(ex cop charger) Details are. Car came with a stock 2bbl rebuilt 318. I pulled the motor out and striped the car for a full restoration and now its all painted and looking awesome it was time to do something with the motor while it was out. Changed cam to mopar performance cam P4452992 (474 lift,280 duration,2000-6000) and the manifold is weiand 7504 (looks just like the action plus be fairly similer too). New timing chain and the heads was replaced with brand new heads from a local dealer here thats been ported/polished and now has 265 values. Also got mopar performace springs to match the cam (http://www.bluestarspares.com.au/sto...dProduct=10291 these are the heads i got.) Trans is a stage 2 shiftkitted 904 with a 3200 stally (this stally was recommended by TCI as i sent them all the specs seems a bit high but i gess they know there shit so i got it) Question is what carb should i use? I got a old 600cfm i could try but was thinking of buying a 670 street avanger carb. Car hasnt been started sinse the engine upgrades, still goto rewire the whole thing. Also what kinda HP could I get from a setup like this? I will post some pics of the car if anybody wants to see. |

The build sounds good but the specs are not complete for a guess at the HP level. We would need to know valve sizes, compres. ratio and headers (Extractors for down under right?) if ya got them.
Is the intake a Stealth from Weiand or an older intake? Now for the size carb your running. It will also depend on gear axle ratio with it's intended useage. The 600 has enuff to feed the engine. The 670 would more than likely be better. It would get my vote. |

Congrats on finding a real K16. There aren't too many of those left, I gather. I agree on the 670 cfm carby. Did you do anything to the internals of the engine, such as balancing, overboring, etc? What kind of ignition are you using? Do you know what your compression ratio is? Yes, post some pics. Not enough of us Yanks know about the Aussie/Kiwi Mopars.

Pic of the car there. 1.9/1.6 values the heads are using. Stock bottom end weiand manifold pacemaker headers into a twin 2 1/2 inch system approx 9.5.1 compression (hasnt been tested will conferm in next few days) 3.23 rear end (sure grip). Engine was supposed to be rebuilt and fully balanced when i got it. Timing chain was sloppy so i dont know. Droped it of today to the local mecanics to get it going again. Will post more pics soon. |
