need to build monster small block
ive got a 73 318 out of a satalite i need monster tourque and horsepower anyone got any sugestons

Hi sweptlineman;
Now that is the 64 dollar question. Say your like most of us then money can be tight. I would get a 390 ci kit from a reputable shop example like a SpeedOmotive http://www.speedomotive.com/MOPAR%20STROKER%20KITS.htm This should give you a place to start there are others. Speedomotive also lists a 318 to a 350 stroker also if money is tight. The heads need to be better than a stock head. Edelbrock or Magnum R/T is which I prefer for best performance. We always forget about intake, cylinder heads and cam selection to get the most from the engine. They need to be considered at the same time. So that they work together to make power in the same range. The heads and intake should be chosen first, ask a lot of questions of cam grinders to find what you want. P.S. build for torque not horsepower and it will be driveable and fast... Best of luck, most manufactures will help. Denny |

I know where there is a spinning assembly siting on the shelf---4.180" bore X 4.325" stroke. Billet crank, rods, JE pistons. Works out to about 475" I believe. Must have a high deck "R3" block. Still sitting on the shelf after several years.
Why? Ran out of cylinder head flow at about 390CFM. That makes the extra inches almost worthless because they can't be utilized for competition. That's the reason you don't see competition small blocks larger than 435". Moral of the story? When you add inches, add cylinder head flow at the same time or you will be disappointed. |
