Default TurboCharger or not ????

Hi guys,

I am almost finishing my new 318, just for street with an 904 and a 72 plymout satellite.
The engine has forged cranck, hipereutetic pistons, ARP mains and rod bolts, cilinder heads from a 360 magnum engine, a weaind sthealth dual plane and hooker headers. 10:1 compression rate and a Crower cam intentd for superrcharged engine (288º/288º; 224º@050" ; 114 lobe center and .500 lift with 1.6:1 magnum rockers).
Many options and combinations, please help me:

1) I have a 650 edelbrock performer or a holley 850 DP to choose. Wich will be better on this engine ?
2) I choose this cam cause I already haves it.... 114 lobe center.. likes to be good for a heavy street car on 10:1 compression.... But I may run on alcohol ant put a turbocharger.... turbochargers are really cheap in brazil... and ethanol too...

Opinions ?

Best regards,

Odi

Forced induction, blowers or turbos, require a pretty low static compression, like 7-8:1. You may be good with alcohol, I dont know what the octane is but I know you have to run lots of it as opposed to gas. The higher the octane, the slower the burn. Running that cam with that compression seems mismatched. And running 10:1 with a turbo is going to cause detonation, very bad on the pistons and bearings along with everything else that rotates. You can run 10:1 all day with LNG, no idea on methanol, especially 50%. That would seem to be a very low grade fuel for racing. Plenty of guys here with turbos, someone will chime in.

Too much compression for a turbo. You need no more than 8 to1 in order to run one. 650 is wayyyy to small. Put the 850 on it, you would be better off with aTHermowuad though.

650 is plenty enough for that 318 without the turbo, and that cam would work with a turbo, but you have way too much compression for turbo, you'll have blown head gaskets, detonation, broken pistons, that cam is pretty low on duration for a 10 to 1 engine without the turbo,

Yeah, a 318 is tough, but 10:1 is too high a CR for forced induction.
A smogger 318 responds very will to a turbo because the compression is already low.
This reminds me of an article in the mopar mag a few years ago. Guy with a Mirada w/318 and a B&M supercharger. He takes it to the track and thrashs it with several very fast 1/4 miles runs on a high mileage, basically stock 318 and a roots type supercharger. Several runs into it the engine slings a rod, BUT it still runs and he can limp it up onto the trailer. MoPar or NO CAR was the remark everyone was making.

Default More ......

I don´t haves the exact octane rate from our ethanol.. I thi octane is just a gas think... But our ethanol is mixed with 20% of water ... and stilçl much stronger than gas in our engines... but 7.7:1 air/fuel ratio necessary.

I Agree that 10:1 is pretty high compression for a turbo .... but a turbo with alchohol needs more compression like stock engines ?

The brazilian new fuel injecter cars use an average 10:1 compression on gas (OK, ALL the Brasilian gas haves 20% of pure ethanol) and around 13:1 if are made just for ethanol...

That´s whi I imagine... 10:1 compression , turbo and ethano may work.... Sorry for my ignorance.. I am learn

The modern cars are also using aluminum heads, aluminum pistons, and aluminum blocks. All of the aluminum disapates the heat rather quick. This prevent the ping associated with high compression engines.
