I'll go with the Hemi, too. I don't know about Chevy and Ford guys, but whenever I open the hood and see a hemi, I still get a good feeling. There is visual impact with a 426 Hemi (or a 392, 354, 331 hemi) that just doesn't exist with other engines.

You are all wrong!!!
If you want the "Ultimate" engine for an "Ultimate" muscle car the king is Schubeck's 904. This 8 cylinder double over head cam 904 cubic inch engine will easily out breath any hemi or V10. The EFI DOHC engine can push well above 500 cfms thru its heads producing about 1200 horse and 1100 ft/lbs of torque on pump gas with out any nitrous or forced induction. This engine is outlawed in all NHRA/IHRA classes as well as Nascar.
The problem is the size (about 5" wider then a hemi and at least 5" taller then the V-10) Getting this to fit in anything short of a large SUV would be tough. Starting at $85,000 you would have to be a little nuts. |

I hope my choice is based on reality, but here goes.....
520" + big block, 8.5-1 comp, 2 smallish turbo chargers, air-air intercooler, modern fuel injection, power band from 2000-5500, 12-14 psi on pump gas or 18-22 psi on 100 unleaded. Built 727 with aftermarket overdrive. 2.76 rear. The cubes will take care of the 2.76 when starting off, the OD will allow cruising at 80+ at less than 2000 rpm. On pump gas let's figure 550 at the wheels. Running 22 psi on 100 octane ( or pump gas and alky injection), mabey 620 or so, plus 700+ lb ft of torque. The top speed will be what ever the engine wants to run. If a 231 Buick V6 can make 460 to the wheels, a big ass Mopar with the same boost should be incredible. |

The viper engine is nice but it lacks the " in your face" attitude of the 426 hemi. Particlary the new crate motors.

My choice is the Blown 440, don't get me wrong I like almost any chrysler engine. and somebody please tell me why ppl build hotrods that they have $40,000 dollars or more and they put a $600 small block Chevy in it? there aint much that makes me madder than ppl who put the SBC in everything.

Depending on budget, nothing says WOW more then a Hemi, followed closley by the Viper V10. For budget considerations a 440 or a cheepe "stroker" 451 (400 block w/ 440 crank) A small block in a big car like a Charger it would have to be a killer stroker w/ big HP.

Aaah, you young'uns with no life experience.
Best engine Dodge ever built was the flathead 6 in the old 3/4 ton, Power Wagon and military 3/4 ton M-37. It was comfortable with whatever speed you ran it at, and would pull, without complaint, clear down to zero RPM. Nope, you think you got to have valves in the head and camshafts in the head and fancy piston crowns and fuel injection and computers! You can't even hand crank yours to start it. Haarrumph! |

440's rock
Hemi, shmemi. Yep,you heard me right. Back in 1970, the Hemi cars and the 440 six-pack cars were matched up real close. The hemi car would lag behind until midway and then it would start movin' somethin' fierce. It would tie,or even beat the 440.
The hemi is a better plant-hands down, but the 440,with some aftermarket heads is a very close and is, actually my choice.Blown is even faster and you can really force the fuel down a 440!! Shaun |

My M-37 never had trouble in the rain. Military 100% waterproofing, could go under water.
However, it sucked oil and flooded out most of the plugs going downhill, even using those extenders to keep oil off the plugs. Sometimes I'd have to stop at the bottom of a hill and pull the plugs, some dripping oil, and clean everything before moving on. The problem was using a wrench to unscrew the wires from the plug before unscrewing the plug. Ah, the good old days. |

I gotta go along with the 440. Several years ago a buddy of mine built one and when he launched it, it broke the body on his 71 Challenger. Seems he forgot to allow for the extra torque and just had conventional motor mounts.

There is nothing like a Slant 6 blowing past all the Hemi and 440 engines, I just need to figure out a way to make it happen.

I remember one of the slant racers used to use a vintage Simca body, then rolled it. I hope they were able to salvage it, but it looked pretty bad the pics I saw. |

I'd go for some kind of EFI RB motor (especially if you can get some kind of 3 two barrel TB's on it) for that car.
For me, I wouldn't mine a Neon headed 2.2/2.5 Turbo backed by a built AW-4 and 8.25", 8 3/4", or XJ/MJ D44 in a Track-T. Or maybe a couple aluminum headed (Hessco) stroker 4.0L's (say somewhere around 4.7L give or take), one built to run as strong as possible yet happily on 87 octain pump gas for highway cruisin' in maybe my '98 Limited while getting an older pre-OBD2/airbag/new HVAC Cherokee (probably a '91-'94, preferably something like a Briarwood or Wagoneer just to be real twisted) packing a like size stroker but built specificly to run E-85 (it's getting more and more available around here), in a truck built to corner, haul cargo, and be "wheelable" as well as not stand out enough to get "unwanted attention" all while being used as a daily driver. |

A good way to look at it would be: If you had a line of 69' Dodge Chargers with all of these different motors in them and everyone could pick just one to take home and keep, which one would you pick? Easy choice, I'd take the one with the 426 Hemi!
