Well, I think it has a lot in common with the 94 Ram, that Ram was a defining statement for Chrysler, you either loved it or hated it.
Now as time has went by , people have gotten used to it. The 2000 restyled Ram didnt have near as much heat or complaints put on it though it was even more radical than the 1994 edition.
The poll in this topic is proof that the 06 Charger affects people much the same.
If this Charger is hated as much as that 94 Ram was, I dont think that DC has much to worry about!

Only because I would have hoped they would have given it it's own attitude. I look at one and first see 4 doors (Puke). Then as I get an overall look at it. I see the 300 from the back and a slightly modified Magnum from the front.

The commercial I saw for the new Charger tonight was the first I'd seen of it...And from the commercial, it looked like it was going to be a four-door sedan type car....

Anyone know what the engine options are for them? And how much hp they be putting out?

Not possible, but fact. They will offer a "new" 6.1 Hemi, 425HP, in all SRT-8 model designations.

Default Charger?

Too much like the 300 and the magnum. How could Chrysler get so far away from the concept car? No. Chrysler dropped the ball. The concept car had a lot of similar lines to the 70 charger. The idea was to mimic the old style. Ford pulled it off with its new mustangs. I hope Chrysler never brings the 'cuda back!

Look for yourself: http://www.potomacweb.com/autoshow/charger.html

Imagine a rebel flag on the roof of the new charger. I think not!

Yeah, but the 6.1L will worry an old Hemi in the 1/4, take a Max wedge in a mile and when the road turns leave everything under $70,000 for dead, four doors and all. We're talking state-of-the-art handling here, plus the HP to cool a lot of Porches and exotics for 1/3 the money. Gonna be a lot of 872 BMW 12 cylinder sedans seeing the Charger pulling away from them, and that'll hurt a guy who's dropped $112,000 on a car. Might be interesting to see an AMG Mercedes with the 8.1L Viper engine running against a Charger 6.1. 5800lb AMG might not handle as good as the Charger. BTW, these list for $323,000....let's buy two, they're a bargain.

Default I bought one

I bought the new Charger. It is a silver Hemi. You might not like the 4 doors but it will run away from my Dakota R/t with no problem. It is fast, handles well, and is very comfortable. By the way, I got more than 25 mph on the highway at 75. I think you all should quit complaining and give it a chance.

I am just curious, with all the competition, why did you choose the Charger?

Like it or not, the 2 door sedan or worse, the 2 door hardtop ain't the best performance platform in the first place, and have you noticed, 4 door trucks out sell two door trucks, not to mention sedans.Honda sells 5 Accord 4doors for one 2 door now. It's hard to get in/out of the back seat of a two door(remember????) and usually the back seat is uncomfortable at best. The new Mustang's rear seat was made by the Marquis De Sade. So let's have a 4 door Charger that SELLS to a broader base of customers to KEEP DOWN THE PRICE. If you're a 2 door purist, a good body shop can weld and solder up the rear doors.....

Default New Charger

I took my Dakota RT in for service and looked over the Charger while I was there. I drove a black Hemi and I was sold. It was significantly faster than my RT, even with the headers, dual exhaust, cold air package, and Jet chip. The seats are great, much better than the truck. With 1000 miles on the odometer I am getting 20 mph in traffic and 25 on the highway. It will get the K&N cold air package and the flowmaster cat back system in the near future. Can't wait to get it to the track and see what it can do.

My dealer is going to reserve a time for me to drive the SRT8 when it comes in. Even though they know I'm not in the market for it. The previous owner let me drive the Viper coupe and offered to sell me one AT THEIR ACTUAL COST if I wanted one. I've sold a dozen or more trucks for them(and collected a "bounty" for each one) so they'll go the extra yard for me. The Magnum I drove is no slouch. It'll easily take a R/T with extensive mods. BTW, the new Hemi will run just fine on regular 87 octane fuel and still get good mileage. You just might lose a dozen or so HP. I talked to a man with a Ram Big Horn Edition. He's towing a 28' RV fifth wheel with regular gas and getting 10-14 MPG at 70-75 MPH. He did say he bought a tank of BP/Amoco Ultimate premium and got nearly 17MPG(16.9 by the computer) on it. If you do the math, it doesn't ofset the added price of the fuel however. The wide spead of mileage is mostly due to wind drag. All us RV guys learn to live with headwinds killing our mileage. Crosswinds also hurt milage when towing your "house".

Brought home a Red Hemi Charger today. I have it for the weekend as a test drive. So far, I think I'm in love! Even my wife likes it!!!!
It's a really hard decision: Charger... Magnum....

Default GTO vs Charger

What does anyone think of the new GTO? While I am certainly Mopar guy, especially with the older cars, I have always liked the way Pontiacs look. For buying a sports car, I have to say the GTO is a much better option. 400hp. Weighs less. 2 doors. The car actually looks fast. Albeit, a little plain for that sort of car, but I think Pontiac is leaving room open to spice it up over the next few years.

I agree with most people here about the Charger. It is a good car, but they just shouldn't have called it a Charger. It isn't a sports car. It is a family sedan with a sports car performance package. Basically, Chrysler does not have a sports car to offer right now besides the Viper, which is out of my price league. Mustang is doing well, I believe. I think the GTO will be doing well. It would just be nice to see Mopar get into the muscle car type of thing again. I thought they were with the Charger, but it isn't. We are all too biased here, but the new Charger isn't sporty.

Id buy it for the Hemi but why is this new motor being crammed into rolling bricks, 300 & "Charger"? Put the Hemi in something that looks like a Stratus RT coupe with a manual and youve got a GTO killer (on looks) that would prob sell unit for unit with the new Mustang if priced $2000 less.

I'm with you there Talon, I'd love to see it in something that looks more like the Intrepid or Stratus/Sebring sedans only RWD (I wouldn't mind a turbo, fwd version of the Stratus/Sebring sedans either though )

Default Need a sporty lookin Hemi

Yes, I actually bought the GTO. You know what, GM has learned how to build a good muscle car after 30 years. I did run into problems. The car had computer problem after only 300 miles. The problem has been resolved, but I am trying to force GM to rebuy the vehicle and let me get a newer one.

Dodge (DC) has to get some sort of muscle car out there. The GTO is an awesome, sort of reasonably priced car. The Charger is a good idea but the style is stupid. The 300C and Magnum are 2 very nice family sedan vehicles. For those of us looking for muscle and not family vehicles, please build a car that is sporty and fun.

Everyone here likes MOPAR for what it did in the 60s and early 70s. Not for what it did in the 80s or 90s, except for maybe the Intrepid which is a very nice looking family car yet. They need to build some sort of muscle car with the same intentions of the old. GM and Ford has kept the Firebird, Camaro, Corvette, and Mustang alive. Bring the Cuda, Challenger, Real charger, and Roadrunner back to life in some way.

Otherwise, I will be forced to buy GTO

Too bad GM did not develop or build the GTO, just brought it over from Aulstralia and rebadged it. All it is is the Holden Monaro with pontiac badges and symbols and a little bit of massaging on the body, but not very much.

The SRT 8 Charger is the best of both worlds. Real world numbers 13.04 @ 107.

That is faster than a lot of cars that was considered a sports car and faster than most cars that was considered a muscle car.

The car is totally stock w/ less than 2,000 miles

ET 13.046
MPH 107.63
60 ft 1.973
330 ft 5.528
594 ft 7.893
1/8 mile ET 8.428
1/8 mile MPH 84.12
1000 ft 10.941
1/4 mile ET 13.046
1/4 mile MPH 107.63

Actually Swinger, the GTO was developed by Holden which is owned by GM of Australia (kinda like Pontiac here in the US) using an Opel (German maufacturer also owned by GM) designed platform. I think the Catera, CTS, and new STS are also related in some way to GTO.

Ok, I didnt know that Holden was owned before they brought out the GTO, I was under the impression that it was out before GM bought them. My bad.
