Question Paxton vs. ProCharger

It's a ways off, but I'm planning on supercharging my built 318. I've narrowed the search down to either a Paxton Novi 2000 or a ProCharger P1SC. I like the Paxton because I don't have to screw with separate oiling and they have a good history, and I like the ProCharger because it's intercooled and gives a little more of a power gain. What do you all think, which would be better and why?

im Procahrged and i hear there are better benifits by ueing it. not sure if thats true, but..... im pushing 470WHP and thats only with a 360 with headwerk, cam headers, port matching everything, lifters,valve springs and push rods, intercooled, and an ECU system. and about 700hp at high boost

Are you using one of the self-contained chargers, or one of the oil-fed ones?

ill have to ask on monday but i think its the little altinator shaped one. that hangs off the side of the motor. he will do everything and give me paper werk with the specs.

I ran the Novi-2000 for the last 3.5 years, it's a great setup. It'll push a good bit more air than the P-1SC (more air = more power). If you're gonna go Procharger I'd go for the D-1SC. One thing I like about the Paxton is that it runs on it's own belt, so you can run a larger crank pulley for more boost and not have to worry about belt slip.

the model number will tell you or look for a line from the oil pan to the head unit. A line means that the unit is lubricated by the engine, no line means the supercharger oil is in the unit (ie self contained)
D1SC SC=self contained.

I understand that the procharger is a very effecient unit, Don't know too much about the paxton.

A good buddy of mine has a d1sx on a stroked 383. He runs mid tens in a Road Runner

I ran my truck at the local 1/8 mile track on friday, and my best time was a 10.295 at 70 mph. I don't know what I was expecting, but I guess for an n/a 318 that's not too bad. I figured out what I want to do to my truck now though, it involves several thousand dollars, lots of metal, a few ice cubes, and about three weeks of labor time. I think if I go ProCharger I'll pick the D-1 (the oil-fed model) instead of one of the self-contained models.

I called Paxton up a few times and have found they have the worst help or knowledge and poorest customer support of any company I have ever had to deal with for any reason for anything ever.

I'll never call or use them.

Before I got my kit from tscs.com I looked at Pro-Charger's web site and they make a damn good case for themselves against Paxton. I think self contained is the way to go.

I believe Pro Charger is chosen like 4 to 1 over Paxton. (today's sales) I know performance may not be the reason but there must be some reason why most choose the Pro Charger system. Truthfully I have not seen a Paxton system at our local tracks. Maybe it's a Northern state thing..

No, it's not the north. When looking at things such as this one should look at what the Mustang guys are doing. There are so many of them and those guys put alot of money into the industry, in particular the Mustang aftermarket.
Older SC'ed stangs may have Paxton's but take a look at the turbomustangs website; Wow, are there alot of Pro-Charger guys there!

my best friend has a '98 Mustang Cobra with a Procharger D1-SC and he's putting down some pretty good numbers 6XXrwhp and pushing 20+ psi.....I definitely would go Procharger over Paxton but then again I don't know much about the Paxton

My buddy has a mustang convertible running a procharger. he is making around 500 hp and that thing can chirp tires at anytime

i dont know about the individual supercharge kit, but the supercharger store's ease of use with their system would have me leaning towards the procharger

I have not played with the paxton unit, but I did have a D-1 ProCharger (not self-contained) I got off E-bay which I customized some brackets for, and installed on a MOPAR 500cid 505hp crate motor. Yes I used a stock crate motor, cast pstons, iron heads, and .509 hyd. cam.

I ran the D-1 at 188% overdriven, close to its maximum RPM range at 7000rpm. I did switch to alcohol rather than gas since it was a race car and I was expecting 10+PSI of boost. Boost and fuel was fed to the motor through a Ron's Flying toilet and alcohol injection system. I actually ended up with 13psi at my Max Rpm of 6600.

The stock crate motor on pump gas in the Cuda (2850# w/driver) ran 10.95 for 11 passes in a row at RT. 66 in Joliet. With the ProCharger the car ran a first pass of 9.60. I did have problems with excessive pressure on the single throttle plate in the toilet when I tried to shut down at the big end, which resulted in a bent throttle shaft and stuck open throttle. A BOV was apparently needed, but I did not know that at the time. Also the additional boost (13psi instead of 10) leaned out the fuel system, which resulted in detenation and disinigration of 3 spark plugs. Once the fuel system was corrected, I had a car that ran consistant enough at 9.41-9.43 to work as a bracket car.

After one season I got tired of the maintenace of the alcohol and retired the ProCharger. The motor now resides in my 71 Charger ProStreet car - never dis-assembled - and is a nice mild street motor. It smokes a little on hard acceleration from the cylinder damage due to the exploded cereamic spark plugs.

I am currently working on a slant 6 ProCharger project and in the design stages of a twin turbo 517 pump gas motor for a not yet disclosed chassis.

Go with the procharger and upgrade to the d1sc. It is a cheap upgrade in the beginning. If you upgrade to it later it would cost 3 times more. The p1sc is just stout enough for the stock engine. Do many mods and it cannot keep up. I got mine from Mike at superchargers4less.

Paxton is the way to go without a doubt. Got a new computer and am still transfering pictures. I will post pics of my novi2000 408 ram soon!!!!!

being the old one here. the paxton has been around it was the first one i knew of .. 1954. ford..
there is a powerdyne in the shop .but i am still reading before i just put it on. it too is supposed to be good. the system has to be balanced to all components.
it will go on a 410 w/ 6# . tci 3000 stal w/ valve body in a 518 od, it will be in an 85 ramcharger w/ tubs. all steel interior parts replaced w/ alum . alum rad. hope it will be a good set up...qp

I say go turbo I had a procharger D1SC already on 12#'s I went turbo the truck runs better and I am only running 8#'s and making 50 more HP but I am a carb too!

i have a p1sc and imma send it back to the shop soon. make sure you guys runing ati prochargers check the center impeller bolt and tighten it if need be. mine came off and al but destroyed my impeller tines.
