Default turbo on a 400 b block

Got a pretty much stock 400 i want to experiment with and was thinking about turbo charging. What size turbo has been used or should be used? The car will be used for some daily driving and occasionally when the mudstains want to play will throw down.I am not looking for an all out racer but 13's would be nice.Would a single turbo from say a cummins work?

Check a turbo out of an engine that has about the same rlationship with rpm and displacement, and you can except it to produce about the same boost. For example, if you have a 400 that turns 5000 rpm, you need a turbo out of a rather big turbodiesel that only turns 3000 rpm = 668 cu in. However, you should have the engine capable of taking the boost, and I highly doubpt that a stock 400 with cast pistons isn't going to take a whole lot. But if you have a good wastegate and keep the boost down, it will live quite a while running 13's. Many years ago we built a 318, stock bottom end, 360 heads and intake, one turbo out of some truck and the carb on the suction side of the turbo. It acted like a stock 318 and run 13's in a '70 barracuda. Just a small warning; it's very addicting and you may end up with something like this:
