Supercharger Help
I installed a Powerdyne S/C last week and my truck pings slightly w/ 6 lbs. of boost. I had 89 octane in the tank for about a 150 miles w/ the superchager. Filled up with Chevron 93 octane 2 days ago and the pinging can still be detected. We put a scanner on while driving and it said it was running rich, which I was told it needed to be under boost. What are my options at this point? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Buy an ignition retard system. It will pull out some timing under boost to eliminate the ping. That should totaly solve the problem if you are only running 6psi.

Which ignition retard system should I buy? I assume I will have to take my MSD 6A ignition off? What supercharger are you running and how many lbs. of boost? Thanks for the help.

MSD sells a retard box that hooks right up to the MSD! I think it is like 120-140 and is real simple to wire in!

2 Choices
You can plug a MSD Boost Timing Managment system into your current 6AL or you can get a MSD 6AL BTM which alread has the Boost Timing Managment system inside the 6AL. It makes for a cleaner install with less wiring and boxes to mount. However it is about $350. I was running about 8.5psi on a 360 with a mopar computer with no ping problems.

i would run a couple of tanks of 93 thru there first. if the problem persists, i'd change to some NGK plugs 2 ranges colder. if that doesn't work, i'd make some race gas, out of some toulene from the paint store or home depot. i hate octane boosters. 6psi is very mild boost and should not be pinging. you are not running a performance chip or puter, are you?. as a last resort, i'd go with the boost retard, which will cost you some hp, the very reason you got the blower in the first place

Thanks for all the help! I'll give it a couple of weeks with 93 octane, then if that doesn't work I'll try a ignition boost retard. Does anyone custom program your PCM for all the mods added to the vehicle? I'm running the factory PCM.

KRC Performance
They'll setup a custom PCM flash for your modlist.

Try putting your ignition back to stock befor you go spending any money on a retard kit. Talking with Jim Bell one day about detonation problems he told me of a customer of his that had detonation problems running 5-6 psi. The only other thing the guy had was an ignition upgrade. They put the ignition back stock and never had any detination problems. He advised me to stay away from them.
