Duster instrument cluster

I need to pull the cover off the cover for my instrument panel on my 70 duster and I need a little help. 1st of all, I was able to remove the wiper control knob, but I can't get the headlight control know to come off. (The wiper knob came right off.) Also, I have taken the screws out of the face, will unhooking the wiring from the back of each instrument free the face plate to come out? I don't want to take any liberties and break the plastic. Thanks.

Weird

But true. The darned light switch knobs just don't want to come off. I did what you suggested and pulled the wiring to lift out the gauge panel. No big deal, just tag them. You will also get the advantage of inspecting for burned ammeter wiring, which likely does exsist.

On the headlight switch, reach around to the top of the switch and feel for a button. Press that in, then push the headlight control in slightly, then pull it out. That button is the lock for the headlight knob. Once the knob is out of the way, you should be able to unscrew the trim piece from the headlight switch assembly and move it out of the way, if needs be.

One thing no one has mentioned, I will drop the steering column down off the dash shell to provide a little extra clearance when pulling the instrument cluster out. You may have enough without dropping it but you risk scratching it up getting it out, and back in. Just dont let the column hang, put something underneath it to keep from stressing the mounts at the firewall.:)
