97 dodge ram no HEAT :(
my dad has a 97 dodge ram 1500 360 120,000 miles and it has a newer thremostat radiator flushed doesnt over head and the heat isnt workin some times it will be barley warm but basicly doesn't defrost the windows im tryin to figure out what it is? some people said the heater core some said blendoor or maybee the knob that changes the heat? can anyone help? cause the weathers getting bad here.
doesn't over heat newer thermostate radiator was flushed no heat |
How hot of a thermostat does your dads truck have in it. I ran a 160 in my 95 318 a few yrs ago which was fine for summer but come winter i had very little heat. Going to a hotter thermostat fixed my problem, now it'll burn you out of the cab.

Once the engine is warmed up and the heater is cranked up, are both of the heater hoses hot? If one is cold/warm and the other is hot, then the heater core is plugged up. If both are cold/warm, then the problem would be an obstruction at the engine side of the hoses. If both hoses are hot, then the problem is most likely something with the blend door.

the 2 hoses ur talkin about are the 2 that come out of the firewall heater core right? just dubble checkin im gonna check the hoses when my dad get home from work if there both cold what did u say it would be?
the thermostate is probably round 180 190 and the air is barely warm thanks for helpin me ill let u know what i find out |
If both hoses are hot and there is no internal heat, I would suspect the blend door adjustment. The blend door is controlled by a cable and it could be broken or out of adjustment.

I have a 97 Ram 1500 318 and am having the same problem. Both heater hoses are hot, the upper radiator hose gets hot when the thermostat opens, 195 degrees, but the lower radiator hose never gets past warm. I have a new thermostat, radiator, water pump and currently have the dash setting in my garage. The blend door feels like it is opening and closing all the way in both directions. Does anyone have any other ideas?

The hoses should feel exactly the same. If one is hot and one is warm then the heater core is plugged.
|
That sounds like the lower radiator hose is collapsed.
|
The lower radiator hose is supposed to be cooler, that's what radiators do.
The product in the link below is touted to fix blend door problems: http://www.heatertreater.net/magento...ram-95-02.html |
