I was recently told that the Dextron 3 was the same as the Type 7176 tranny fluid that Mother Mopar recommends in all of their transmisions. Can the Dextron, which is the only thing that any oil change place uses, be used in these transmissions or must it be Type 7176?
TIA |
Anything labeled Dextron is NOT type 7176. Do not use Dextron III in a trans caling for type 7176. You can use ATF+ which is what 7176 supercedes to. I know at least Pennzoil and Quaker State, as well as Ma make ATF+.
Find another shop. Steve |
That is exactly why I wanted to check with someone that knows what they are talking about first before letting anyone put anything like that into my vehicle. It already happened once in this tranny. I quickly replaced the fluid with genuine mopar type 7176 soon after torque converter shudder started.
Thanks a lot! |
Torque convert shudder is exactly why 7176 and ATF+ were formulated.

If Dextron can cause torque converter shutter, why do they say in the manuals we can use Dextron III or 7176 ???

You can use Dextron III and I've seen it used without problems but The additive package in it is different then the additive pkg in 7176
I would get it changed somewhere else ps and it smells bad! |
