I have a junk Chrysler industrial engine model 30 in a Yale Lift Truck. Are all flathead 6's interchangeable pertaining to motor mounts, bell housing, crank shaft, etc?
I know engines where used in MM Combines, Massey Harris combines, and marine engines, etc. I need any information that will help. Thanks, Richard |
It depends on which flathead Chrysler you have, either the "small" block 218-230, or the bigger "big block" 250-264 style engine. You can interchange the small blocks with themselves, or the big blocks, but no interchange between the two, as far as I know, due to size constraints. I'm no industrial engine expert, but if you can bring in some numbers, like castings numbers or other, I bet some of the other folks who post and read here, can identify what you have. Also, the industrial flatheads have been recommended as good swaps for cars and pickups, so if you decide not to use that Chrysler industrial engine, post something about it here, I bet someone will be interested. And Welcome to Moparchat!

Stoga,
Thanks for welcoming me to Moparchat, I'm using my daughter's computer at her house on the weekends right now until I get a computer. The engine is 72 HP, 230 CI, Bore 3 1/4, Stroke 4 5/8, Model 30 type 1533-1. The serial number is 328058. This should be a small block, correct? I will get the casting numbers for you. What I am trying to do is get a engine to replace this one that will do the job and will fit (bell housing, motor mounts, etc). The lift truck has a fluid drive clutch like the old 48-49 Chrysler product cars, it still has a clutch like a normal clutch but you don't have to use it if you don't want to. I have been told by a Yale dealer that a car or truck engine will not work due to the bell housing mount and crank shaft. I have a chance to buy a 49 Dodge pickup motor but I don't know if it's a small block or big block. Thanks, Richard |
rkresin, what kind of car/truck are you going to install the engine ?

p15-d24, I have a Yale Forklift model G51-P, about 1963 with a fluid drive transmission. I want to use the Forklift and was told the cost to get a rebuilt engine would be too expensive. There are also 8 holes (7/16") in the crank shaft and 3 15/16 bolt circle. rkresin
