65 Coronet vs. 69 Z 28

In 1979 I picked up a 65 Coronet with a 440 4 speed...$275. Bondo buggie but it ran hard. About the same time my buddy bought a 69 Z 28 with a vette 327...or so the guy told him...4 speed. Needless to say he thought he was the s**t. One day at the local Dairy Queen he starts talking crap about my car. I said it might not be as nice as his but it will run. Next thing you know...it's on. So out of town we go to a deserted country road. Just to tweek him up some I told him that he could take off first. Surprising enough we were side by side in first gear. As soon as he hit second his driveshaft falls out. All I see in my mirror is him slowing down and his shaft bouncing all over the road. I almost crapped myself from laughing as I slowed down to turn around. He was hot. For some reason I had a tow chain in my trunk so we got him hooked up and started back to town. I got the idea to drag him past the Dairy Queen and through the park so everyone could laugh at him. Have to love small town USA. He kept trying to turn his wheel and put on the brakes but that old Dodge pulled him anyway. Long story short...I helped him fix his car but he never challenged me again. That same car also took out a big block Ford. Those were the days. Mark
