Hello. I recently brought a old family member back into the family . My great uncles 1981 d150. The old sl6 has always been weak and I would like to improve it. Can anyone give me a plan for a streetable Sl6 build up?

What size is the slant?

Have you tried giving it a good blow-out... take it for a run and rev the ring out of it in second gear? Often works wonders with engines that haven't been used properly.

Sorry .Trying to figure out how to use this site. not much on computors. It has a 225 with a three speed auto. Even when it was new it had a huge hesitation in it. I would like to restore the old truck and build the engine to a streetable 250 hp or so. Is that a doable number?

Not impossible at all to get that kind of power, though it's probably just over the upper edge of 'streetable' at that level...

You might also get some ideas from the slantsix.org forum.

No doubt there are books on hotting up the slant as well. A key to getting really good power from a 225 is to find a set of 198 rods.
