I have a slant 6 that I can not ID. I've tried every engine casting decoder that I can find but no luck. The block is numbered 4343-730 on the driver side and dated 19-1-87. The other side of the block shows 220

I wonder if that could be a marine or industrial version.

abody340,1976-77 225 engines are PN 4041314 forged crank and PN 4071072 cast crank. Based on those numbers, I would guess you are probably looking at something in the range of 1981 +. If you can find the head casting number, this might help, if it is all the original engine. '79-80 head casting # is 4104362. Head casting # for '81-83 is 4095778. Hope this helps. Thanx, Glenn.

my guess is possible welder or generator powertrain, with a engine block heater .those engine mounts dont match a early or late model a /b/f body it is a late model engine from the 80's.

All I know is that the guy who had before me was into drag racing and he had it rebuilt for racing

The block is "stamped" not cast on a small pad area behind the alternator where the alt bracket and coil are bolted to the block. Clean area and you will find it. "IF" the block has been decked the number will be long gone..
