My truck burned to the ground with an RV
 

I bought a used RV two weeks ago.
On the way home, my truck caught fire and burnt to the ground on the interstate.

The RV was miss wired and overloaded my truck.
The dealer refuses to talk with me.

Here is my issue.
I was always told anything I hook to my truck is covered by my trucks policy.
Now, this new to me insurance company says this is not true with RV's.
So, my truck, not my personal propery was covered.

I'm out over $10,000 in Rv and personal items.

So be very careful who you buy from in the RV business, and always call your insurance agent first!

I am not for sure but I think you are right, I would check YOUR copy of the policy looking for eclusions for the RV, if none found call them back and tell them of this fact. And if they still give you the run-around tell them that your lawyer will be happy to talk to them about the matter. They would rather settle than have to go thru that I promise. Dont forget to include "loss of use" of the truck also in your claim. Then a trip to a personal claims lawyer . Most will do a free consultation, and let you know what re-course you ACTUALLY have... M2C..

Dang that was some fire, sorry for your loss....

That was very unfortuniate [that sucks] i have to agree that i'm under the same impression that it is covered when it is hooked up to your vehicle my agent even told me that when i had mine. However when you say the rv was misswired what are you refering to that was miswired causing your loss. What i'm getting at is make sure that it is not some thing that could be called operator error [as far as the insurance] as in lighting [lights not working correctly ect] because you did not check them. One of your photos shows a 30amp. fuse holder and if i'm guessing correctly that is for the 12 volt positive for charging the rv batterys while hooked to the tow vehicle [white is ground-black is 12 volt positive on rv's i'm guessing that is what your saying is the cause? I'd like to hear more about this "miswiring?"

The fact that insurance companies sell policies for trailers kind of dispels the thought that coverage is automatic when connected to the tow vehicle.

I m not near the rv so I can't check things.
But it has been suggested the rv harness was wired + into the trucks -

Both are black wires.

It was always my undestanding the RV's need a policy to be covered on your propery or a camp ground.

Yes, if you wanted comprehensive coverage while it wasn't being towed. On the road, it's a vehicle and requires proper insurance if you want to be protected.

dude that totally sucks, so where did the fire start?? the truck or the rv?? if it were the rv i would've hurried up and unhooked the camper to try and save my truck when i first saw smoke, or even if it were the truck as long as the fire wasn't getting big real fast, i woulda possibly put it in neutral, jumped out, unhooked the hitch and pushed the truck foward, and all you woulda had to do was pull the pin out of the trailer hitch and went foward, wouldn't have even worried about the jack.... any camper i've ever seen had a fire extinguisher by the door

The first sign of trouble was the battery on the left side exploding.

Biggest fear was to get out of it.
Saddest thing was watching it burn while the fire trucks were coming.
