You know..... this is buggin the hell outta me. I've went thru every archive I could find and I'm torn between the 40's and 50's series Flowmasters mufflers. I have a 2001 4x4 that I plan on keeping stock so I'm just doing the basic muffler swap. But I'm spoiled on the Mustang that I have's sound. I just don't know. But since I'm going on vacation next week. I'm going to leave it up to all of you experts to "hopefully" put this issue of mine to rest today. The guys at Summit will be thrilled when I call them to change my order for the 100th time!!! Thanks people and let the opinions rip!!!

The 40 series will let you (and the outside people) know inside the cab that the exhaust is rumbling, the 50 series (SUV) P/N 53057 will let the people outside hear the rumble and you can listen to your stereo at normal volume....performance wise they are the same.

Miket hit it right on the head. I have the 50 series SUV, and it's not that much louder than stock (unless I jump on it) - and that's with JBA headers and a Random Technology cat. If you plan to only do a cat-back system, then you probably wont notice much difference at all with the 50. But, outside the truck you'll get a nice rumble when you jump on it.

jdeck13:
I've got edelbrock headers, true duals, dynomax cats, and flowmaster 40 delta series. Love the sound but it does resonate at 1700 rpm. Noticable but not too bad. Sounds great and wouldn't go with the 50's. I chose the 40 delta because it is nice and loud outside and almost as quiet inside as the standard 50 series(according to flowmaster's web site).

speed... what did those dynomax cats run you each? been pleased with the performance? i'm going for a high flow cat and was about decided on the random tech. until i heard a price... but maybe all of them are that high.

Remember there are two 50 series mufflers....one "standard" 50 series, and a SUV 50 series. The difference is the thickness of the muffler case. The SUV has a 5" case which is 1" thicker than the standard 50 series....the thicker the case, the quieter it will be inside the cab....the outside sound is the same.

More info....but I figured you wanted all the facts...
