streetable limits of a supercharged 360, what do you think ?

How much streetable power do you think can be pushed out of a 360 using, lets say an ATI procharger. No turbos, I know they are somewhat more efficient but lets just stick with superchargers since this hypothetical question has signifigance for some plans of mine in the future an a twin turbo set up would be a bit over my head and experience level. Defining streetablity to me anyways means :

Runs on 91 octane without any pinging issues
Idle under 1000 rpms (so maybe a cam with low 500s lift)
No overheating problems
As for gas miliage... lol who cares?

I would guess about 500 hp at 8-10 psi intercooled, 450 at 6 psi not intercooled, and up to about 650 if you intercool and use water injection. Detonation is going to be your limiting factor. All this goes down the toilet if you don't have perfect fuel mixtures, however.

My Dakota is a late model MPI 360. Still tuning on it, but we planned for and anticipate 400+ rwhp(500+ BHP), runs on 91 octane, uses a Paxton Novi 2000 head unit, idles quite well at 725 rpms(barely tell it's got a cam).

This is a non-intercooled setup, but the fuel system has been enhanced and I do have some safety nets in place in the form of water/alk injection and a knock retard system.

With an intercooler and lower compression, you should be able to get around 475-550 rear wheel hp. I am running a fairly large cam, but with an aftermarket computer I am able to get a nive lopey idle at 850 rpm, in gear with 11" of vacuum. See my home page for the build list and the numbers.

Yeah, I was looking at KRC performance's site and saw alot of Dakotas on there with stroker and blown 360s pushing 500+ hp at the wheels or more.. very impressive. However since I plan to stay carburated would my power limits be hindered compared to the accuracy and more efficient fuel delivery and atomization that fuel injection provides? Especially when it comes to the boost.

BlownDakota 02-27-2004 01:35 AM

If you get the carb set up correctly, you can actually make a little more power than an engine with port injection. Mixing the fuel with the incoming air a longer distance away from the valve gives it more time to absorb the heat from the compressed air, lowering the intake temperatures and atomizing the fuel better. But getting the carb that spot on is no easy trick. What are you putting together anyway?

I am toying with the idea of a high output supercharged and intercooled 360. A long term goal of mine but i always like to learn about this stuff way ahead of time.

BlownDakota 03-02-2004 08:50 AM

Boost is a wonderful thing, lots of luck. I did a 340 with a Paxton and a 360 with a Procharger both with carbs. Both made more power than my 5.2 but niether was as much fun to drive or had the road manners of the 5.2 with injection.

ask ScottQ in Cali

he's go a blown 408ci stroker in an ex-cab Dakota and he's sen numbers at the rear wheels in the neighborhood of 550hp. I think he runs a Paxton or a Vortech on his.

hi, i`m trying to put a novi 2000 on a la 360 chrysler small block.

its a 360 - 408 stroker. i got email from paxton saying they dont make a bracket for the novi 2000 on to a la360.
hunted around the net , still couldnt find any good info. came across where you have a novi 2000 on a late model MPI 360.

i presume its a magnum engine ? will the supercharger bracket for your novi , fit onto the older la engines ? if so , does it need much in the way of modification ?
did you buy it or make it ?

any help will be very much appreciated , its useless trying to get anything in australia.!!

thanks , mark krawczuk

You asked a question in an old thread of a member who has not been here for 8 years.

Don't look to cam lift to dictate engine idol.

My car was 500" with a cam that was 248@50 and 715 lift with a 118mm turbo and it idled well under 1000rpm non inter cooled on e85. motor made 1320

you can youtube josh king turbo duster there are dyne pulls and other vids of the car

mopardude318 04-09-2013 12:38 PM

i Have an old school B&M 162 supercharger I plan to use on my 318. pics to follow soon...

Prochargedmopar 05-29-2017 02:36 PM

Bump,

Putting the procharger back on my 360.
Then a turbo.

What is the max power made in this "new age" of performance.
