96 Ram doesn't want to shift
This is my dad's truck so I don't know all the details quite yet. This is just what I got over the phone.
Its a 96 Ram 4x4 318 auto well over 200,000km Recently whe he drives it, sometimes it doesn't want to shift up unless you let up on the throttle, then it shifts and away you go. I guess it doen't do this all the time but he's getting concerned. The folks are going to be doing alot of driving coming up and now would not be a good time for some major repairs. Any info would help alot Thanks guys! |

service the tranny. That may help atleast you can see if there is anything in the fluid or if its burnt. You might have the bands adjusted.

Is it necessary to lift the throttle for both the 1-2 upshift and the 2-3 upshift or only the 2-3?

make sure there is nothing binding the throtle valve cable (kickdown). also need to know is it a 1-2 shift or a 2-3 shift. or all shifts. have seen a govenor senor/solenoid cause delayed shifts also. if it is a 2-3 only. its probably the front clutch seals or worn front clutches. if its that then your looking at an overhaul
