Default 2000 dodge ram 4x4 rear end

wondering if a 1997 4x4 rear end would work in my 2000 dodge ram ?
I have a 3.55 gear ratio and am wondering if thew 97 has a 3.55 ratio if it would work ? I can purchase the rear for 125.00. he also has the front for 125.00. But i would prefer to just changethe back rear on my truck that is making noise. Any help would be appreciated

I'm not sure but I believe the 2000 uses a tone ring in the rear for the speedo. The 1997 used a pinion in the transmission.

The tone ring goes back a ways but it was only used for ABS prior to '98, in '98 it was used for both the ABS and the speedo.

The Hollander Interchange shows no interchange between '97 and '00...don't know why. '96-'99 interchange, '00 and '01 interchange.

thanks for your help and in getting back to me on this. However, I have already purchased the 97 rear end. the guy told me it was the same and would work up to 2001. It sure looks the same and has the same code on it.
He said i may have to chaange just the abs sensor that is on the rear . Now i am confused as what to do. I am taking it that the speedometer may not work by viewing your posts . Anymore info that you have would be appreciated .As i said---all looks identical to mine in my 2000. i am wondering if there is a way around this so i can install it. Maybe i didn't get a good deal afterall ! I paid 175.00 for both the front and the back rearends from this guy. He acted positive they were the very same as mine. any followups to this would be greatly appreciated. thanks aagain !

The codes on both the 97 and my truck are dmd and drb. I am sure hoping this rear will work somehow. i am hoping someone can ghet back to me and let me know for sure if it can or cannot be used. This guy told me i would possibly just have to chaange the abs sensor on the rear and that would be it. i hope i didn't throw money away for nothing.
