Question Dodge SST and Indy - Tire Question?

I need to replace tires on my 98 ram sst. I think I've narrowed it down to:

Yokohama AVS S/T
or
BFGoodrich Comp T/A HR4-2

I do live in the northeast so some snow comes into play.
I'm open to comments about these or other tires that you may have tried. So far tirerack.com seems like the best place to get them. Stock tire size is 275/60r17 - has anyone gone wider?
Thanks
Jim

I would have no problem with going Firestone. Do you have any pictures of how they look on the truck and how are they in the rain/snow?

A few years back I had a set of AVSs on a Ford truck of mine and between the soft compound and my heavy foot - they were gone.

IMO they are a good looking set of tires - they stick real nice, but I think they are racing slice with a tread disguise. (If that makes any sense.)

Billybob has the BFG Sport truck tires - I think they look good.

A few guys on here are running Pirelli Scorpions - thats what I'm considering in the spring.

Let us know which way you go

I lot of people seem to like the BFG's. My priorities are handling and looks. The BFG's appear to have a rounded edge that may look funny and the H rating would suit me fine. Other people state what you said - the Yoko tires are great but wear fast. I'm now leaning toward the BFG's. I took my sst to Pocono raceway and entered into a timetrial race with the little hondas - I faired ok but the goodyear didn't.
Thanks for the input and I will post back.

Thumbs up

don't know if you have checked this site out yet, but you can get a lot of tire info and compare tires at

www.tirerack.com

Cool

yea - that is a good site. I will be ordering the tires from there unless someplace better pops up.

If someone has a picture of their truck with BFG's on it please post it or email it to me. jnorkus@ragingbull.com

well i dont have a digital camera so i cant take pics. put from the side they look the same as the goodyear gt2's they have different tread design but way better grip. and they are real good in the rain. snow? well we dont get snow down hear so i dont know. they are a softer compond so they do not last quit as long.

ive got a set of Scorpions on my truck. i like them alot better than those goodyears. havent used them in the snow yet. probably wont, i have a set of steelies with wranglers that i use in the snow. like the goodyears, the Scorpions are too wide to think about having decent traction in the snow. i got the 275/55/17. might go to a 50 series when these wear out. i think a smaller sidewall will look better with the drop i have. havent had anything else to compare them with. but i know they have it all over the gt2s.

Cool

UPDATE:

I tried to order the BFG's and I was told the they stopped making them in my size 275/60R17 (although I didn't go to tirerack). The Yokohama AVS's will be coming in soon. I'll give an update once I try them out. The V rating will make me happy for a short while anyway.
