Not sure on the auto, but the manual shifter you have to pop the center cap out of it, the one with the shift pattern in it, then theres a nut underneath you loosen, the pull the handle off.

the manual knob screws off like the nut as well, doesn't pull off.

Default Hurst Shift Handle

If the manual trans. shift knob is threaded, can you replace that knob with a Hurst "T" handle shift knob?

Yes you can, but you have to get the right adapter. I use a B&M t-handle with a line loc button, I had my machinist father make the adaptor as the ones in the kit wouldnt work. Sorry, cant remember what the thread size was though. I think it was metric, like 12mmX1.50
