Angry Door wind noise!

On my 97 extended Ram I have a wind noise coming in from the drivers door. Its worse when there is a cross wind and always at 60 plus. Our service truck at work also had the same noise and it's a 99 regular cab. Anyone have a solution to this. I checked the door alignment and the door seal and they both look fine.

Thanks

If your window's closing all the way then I sounds like the weather stripping around the door. I coat mine with some armor all to keep them from drying out and cracking.

The rubber seal around the inside jam is in good shape with no cracks or tears and the window is shut all the way. The noise is heard when there is a strong cross wind. Our 99 service truck does the same thing. I guess your not having the same problem. When the noise starts up and I push on the door's top edge it gets worse. It's as if the door isn't tight enough at the top and allows air to get by the seal. When you check the outside of the door for alignment it's perfect. Our 99 Ram has the same noise from day one but it's not quite as bad as my 97 Ram.

I used to get this on my '95 at speeds above 105 but I went to the hardware store and got some black weather strip (black) with one side having sticky tape and reinforced the existing weatherstrip in the front of the door. What's happening is the wind is getting in the crack and slightly pushing the seam of the door wider. (very slight but enought for noise)

Next time you hear it try to slightly push out on the front of the door where it comes in contact with the cab frame and you'll see you get more noise. By adding the extra layer of insulation it stops the air from getting through.

My prevoius '96 Dakota had the driver side door noise, at 90+mph and especially during cross winds. It drove me crazy trying to find it.

Once while it was making the noise (almost a whistle) I pressed my fingers up between the door and frame, where Race1Mopar indicated and it quit.

In addition to the mentioned weather striping, I pulled small nylon rope/twine thru the door seal tubing to firm it up a bit. Pain in the a**, but it worked

Thanks for the good info guys. I'll give it a try. It drove me nuts on Saturday when I had a two hour drive into the city. There was a heavy cross wind and driving at 70 plus I was ready to rip the door off.

Thanks
