Default front axle u joint

i found out what the clunk was in my steering, my front left u joint is cracked, it looks like its just the cup that is craked but the axle is loose. i went and bought a new u joint. im going to change it myself. im just wondering how if anyone had any tips on changing this. will i need a special tool to get the hub off? thanks

I just pull the hub bearing bolts and spray some wd-40 in between the mounting surface and pry it off. Break the big axle nut free first before you take the tire off pull the caliper off and out of the way, with all off you can pull the shaft out and install the new joint just be carefull when you slide the shaft back in not to destroy the seal thats in the center on the axle.
One thing I like to do is pull the dirt out of the axle tube away from my seal surface, I use a piece of threaded rod with a bolt and washer on it and just scrape it clean. You should put a small amount of grease on the end of the shaft and seal surface to lubricate the seal to prevent possible damage...

well that was easier than i thought, i thought i was going to have to pull the cover off the front end and take out the clips that hold in the axles like the rear. had the rmove the u joints by cutting though. only took an hour to do it all.

My dana 60 front and rear have no c-clips on any of the shafts, I don't know if the dana 44 does, I even looked up in my repair manual but it didn't show the break down of the 44 but did show the 60 and 9 1/4... Hopefully it does not have them!
