Hyper Pak was a dealer installed option package from the early 60s. Designed mostly for racing, it included a Carter AFB 4bbl, intake manifold with much longer runners, a .430 lift 276/268 duration cam, valve springs w/dampers, stiffer pushrods, 10.5:1 compression ratio (daytona speedway option only?), dual exhaust manifolds. Available only on the 170cid in 1960, and on both the 170 and 225 in 61. - Frank Adkins 'how to build high performance chrysler engines'
As far as fitting a 4bbl carb on it, well, either get a 4bbl intake manifold or get a 4 into 2bbl adapter (booooo hiss). Clifford Research in Corona Cali does a lot of work with the slant 6 according to Frank. |

Get a 430 cfm holey from Summit Racing. I would not go any bigger than that. It wont help much either unless you mill hte head about .060 and add a cam. Comp cam can set you up with a cam for your engine.

What is "mill hte" the head? is that the same as just milling the head?

Yes, sorry for the typo. For some reason, I do that some times if I dont reread it and correct it soon enough.

so what would i needed to do take it to a machine shop and have that done. also i found a website that sells hyper pack manifold and headers after doing all of this what kind of hp should i expect. and is gas mileage gonna be sacrificed

Yes, a machine shop can do that for you. The original 170 cube hyper pak made 150 hp. If your using a 225 it will be quite a bit more. Possible 200 or so. Not bad for a slant.

Hello, My name is paul knisely, and I still have the grease on my hands from doing a 4bbl transplant. The two things to keep in mind is: CFM of 4bbl carb you want to put on your /6.
I looked through 4bbl's and found one used on a 215 Aluminum OLDSMOBILE V8 in '61 - '63. Hmmmmm........... 225 - 6 compared to a 215 - 8............ Pulses are different for revolutions, but the jetting is for the cubes through a given RPM. O.K. I was game for something different, so bought an OFFENHAUSER 4BBL INTAKE, MATCHED IT WITH AN EXHAUST MANIFOLD (very hard to get the ports 'just right'), used S.S. All-thread and cut to 2" lengths for the studs, got an adapter for the ROCHESTER 4BBL and mounted it on the INT-EX MANI before placing it on engine. The linkage for the carb was another brain- drain and built a one-of that can be machined out of Al. The Trans Line Pressure rod was built from All-Thread (love that stuff) and made a take-off from existing linkage. The Second Thing To Keep In Mind: If you want to go back to the ONE or TWO barrel, keep everything you remove and guard it well. Carry an Extinguisher and hand tools to tweaks with, BYE |

A quadrajunk is 650 cfm and way toooo big for a slant six. Plus it will never fit anything made for a slant.
JC, I'll get you a good cam number shortly. Been pressed for time. Working hard on my two NASCAR GN Sportsman cars and a 2.2 racer. Plus the late model mod dirt car that our race and parts department sponsors has needed some rear end maintenance. Had to have some custom fab work done to the bird cages to get them right. That car has to open practice this SAt. adn Sun. so I'll be busy pit crewing for it those two days. I'll get you number a.s.a.p. though. ![]() |

dwc43 thanks for all the help. i will appreciate all the info you can give me. i am gonna keep the slant 6 the truck runs good and i will never haul much. right now its just a daily driver. but i would like to have that extra power to go around town on. a little extra growl won't hurt at all though. thanks for your time.

Look what I found, the old hyper pak cam. IT was 276-268-44* at .430 lift. PN2205620. No longer available from Mopar performance but you can get it from Melling Tool Co. P.O. Box 37, Jackson, MI. 49204. Part number RPD-3
Why not try the original cam, with the head milled .095 with 3 into one headers and a 430 holley 4 barrel on that 4 bbl intake. That will give you quite a bit more power. By the way, your welcome. ![]() |

It should work well for you. It uses a dual patern with more intake duration to pack the clinders and make up for the heads short commings on the intake side. That set up I mention should get you 200 or so hp. Make sure to add a windage tray to the bottom of the engine too. Also wrap your headers with the dei header wrap. We use it on our race cars and it really lowers under hood temps. Coatings dont help much. Plus if you touch a wrapped header it wont instantly burn you, but dont get dumb and try to hold it either.

A windage tray is a tin cover to keep iol from splashing up on the crank under acceleration and cornering,a good deal to have.Getting back to carbs,I just sold my old offy dual port to a guy for a half ton pickup and the carb we used was off an old mazda rotory wagon, looked like a carter afb,but much smaller.Made by hitachi,Im guessing about 450cfm.Those had an iol line on them to help keep the rotors wet so plug that off of course, and it works pretty good.

DWC: The carb that "thestockguy" mentioned is a rochester carb but is a "squarebore " type way before "quadrajet" (spreadbore) designes came out. It probably would bolt up to the hyperpack manifold W/O too much trouble.
