Help demon fuel tank pad

I took the car apart several yrs ago and no longer have the old tank or pics- can someone tell me the right way the pad faces on top of the fuel tank?

I wouldn't reuse the pad, just something to suck and hold moisture. I used an old inner tube cut into strips.

High tech. Bought a rubber door mat and it works fine!
