Default Head job restoration

I guess this sounds like the most logical section to post this in as it is about restoring the heads, some what!

Have the original stock heads off my 1966, 361ci Plymouth Satellite to get hardened valve seats installed mainly, but while I was at it, also getting new springs and valves resurfaced. Guy at machine shop said my valve guides are all good, so no need to replace.

My main question is should I go a head and get new valve guides regardless as this sounds almost like a pay me now or pay me later type thing?

Is there anything else that should be done to heads? I forget exactly all what the guy said he was going to do!

Hoping for at least one quick answer as the guy should be starting work on heads first thing this morning.

Thank you

If he thinks the guides are good, leave 'em. You won't gain anything from new ones if these aren't worn.

Thank you chirorod.

Now that's how a question should be answered. Straight, direct and to the point, without suggesting 700 other things that I didn't ask for, even though I did ask if there was anything else that should be done.

You definitely helped put my mind at ease.

My pleasure. On many motors, the guides don't wear much. Leaves you more money to replace the tires you're gonna burn up with all that new power.

Between saving that money and the money I'm going to save NOT having to add that Gunk Lead Substitute, whether it was needed or not depending on who you asked, that just might be true!!

Unfortunately, the stock 361 only produces 265hp, so not a ton of power to play with!
