2004 Chrysler Crossfire
The 2004 Crossfire, which DCX says "combines American design with German engineering," will debut at NAIAS. The two-seater, to be built by Karmann in Germany, has a Mercedes suspension and drivetrain, including the Mercedes 3.2 liter engine with a six-speed manual for five-speed automatic transmission (the Chrysler 2.7 and 3.5 apparently lost out). The 3.2 makes 215 horsepower and 229 lb-ft of torque, which will be applied to the rear wheels. Four-wheel antilock brakes are standard, as are electronic stability control and all-speed traction control.

Well, it's better looking than, and not as extreme as, the prototype, but still, I can't get too excited about a MoparBenz. I'll wait for the Charger or an American Mopar powered V8 Intrepid. I bet it's none to cheap either. I can tell it's a high end car, but it gives me about the same level of excitment as a Mitsubishi powered K-car.
Thanks for the pics though, TJJ!! I was curious what the production version would be like. |

I still think that its rear looks like a dog with its tail tucked between its legs. Just another FUGLY mistake that should never have been allowed off of the drawing board.
It also looks like it has the nose of a Caddy. |

The Crossfire uses 39% Mercedes parts. I belive that most of it comes from the SLK coupe. Also expect 0-60 in the mid six's and a top speed of about 140 mph.

I still don't understand how they can build this FUGLY thing and not the Charger.

I work for DC and when I first saw the Crossfire, I thought great finally another exciting concept vehicle that will be built. Then DC announces it will be built in Germany. Since the so called merger, DC has created 28,000 new jobs in Germany, while cutting 26,000 jobs in the United States. I hope DC doesn't sell a one of the new Crossfires.
