Default 1973 Plymouth Duster

I have a 1973 Duster that had the original 14" rally wheels. Can anyone provide guidance on the maximum wheel sizes to use when utilizing standard OEM shocks. I have been told not to use any more that a 6" wide wheel on the front due to clearance problems. Has anyone run a 15 x 7 or 15 x 8 on the back without any problems or should I stick with 6" all around?

Default The best

and frankly the only way to order wheels is to do the dimensional check sheet available on the wheelvintique site. Thay have an online form, free, to print and fill out by measuring your cars critical dimensions.
I run 17X7's all around on my Demon, but I have a disc conversion up front, and an E body rear axle. This form will tell the wheel manufacturer everything they need to know to build the correct offsets.
No interference at all with my Coys C5 wheels.

I got this from "forabodiesonly"

Maximum width FRONT rim in the front of your mopar
WITHOUT flaring the fenders, you must run the most backspacing you can.
This is the max backspacing with 66-72 E/B/A body disk brakes and 73-
76 A/E-body spindles/disks:
For 15" rims 4.5" backspacing
For 16" rims 5" backspacing
For 17" rims 5.5" backspacing Some rims can go 5.72 backspacing and you should check outer tie rod and upper ball joint clearance.

I am sure you can go 15x8 on the rear without problems.

15x8 with 4.5 backspacing with 255/60R15 tires will fit the rear.

I had a '72 Demon on which was mounted 235/60R14 tires on 14x8 wheels in front with 245/60R14 tires on 14x10 wheels in the back. The wheels were custom made and worked well with the stock suspension. Unfortunately, I no longer have information on the backspacing. What I can say is I had to flatten the lip on the front wheel wells to avoid rubbing on turns but my ride height was well below the factory setting. On the back I could have gone at least another inch wider if I had more backspacing.

Without wheel width info, the backspacing dimensions are useless. A 7" wheel with 5.5" backspacing will probably rub on something. But 5.5" backspacing on an 8" wheel might not rub. And, not all A-bodies are the same.

FYI on a '69 Dart that is at stock ride height and with no body/chassis modifications, I am running 15x7 wheels all-around with 4.125" backspacing, 235-60 tires in the back and 225-60 tires on the front. These are the biggest tires I could get on it without something rubbing somewhere. A 245-60-15 tire would not fit on the back of this car no matter what wheel I tried. There just isn't enough room in the wheelwell. Now that's just my particular car, and I really doubt if any two are identical. I know Dusters and Demons have a little more room under there.
