You can swap in a 318 but you will need a transmission too.Your best bet would be to buy an engine & trans from a salvage yard. Or buy a donor vehicle. 318's & 360's are available from many vehicles. Avoid a truck or van or you will need a different oil pan. Mounts are available from Schumacher www.engine-swaps.com Brake upgrades are recomended too.

'B' is a big block, 'RB' is a big block with raised deck height (for larger capacities, basically)...

318 is small block.

Save yourself some grief, buy a healthy 225.

Unfortunatly, healthy 225's are getting hard to find the last 225's were made in the late 80's. Besides the car will be a lot more fun to drive w/ a 318 or 360.

Change your bellhousing and it will...

That should be the A230 trans, this was made for V8s as well as sixes. But it could possibly have the A903 or the A745. The A903 will be marginal, even though with a bellhousing change it will bolt up.

To tell the difference:

A903 and A745: 'Top loader' style with a pressed steel top cover on the box.

A745 (stronger than A903): The top cover has a bulge in the front section over the second and third gear change mechanism.

A230: Side plate bolts on with change mechanism built into the side plate.

If you need pics, just ask.

You can avoid the clutch, flywheel trans mating & bellhousing problems by changing the car to a 904 or 727 auto. trans. (if you don't mind an auto trans) It's easier to go to from stick to a auto then the opposite swap (auto to stick ) & you could always change it back at a later date if you want to.

You may have to get the V8 "Z" bar as the V8 bellhousing is larger. Don't forget that the back of the crank will need a pilot bush, check to see if the crank has the hole for it.
