You can buy bearings to go in the outer locating ring on the crank if you need to... it also means shortening the snout of the gearbox spigot shaft.

I disagree that the V-8 would be more fun.

I had a 64 Valiant that was originally a 273/ 904 push-button and I swapped a 225 /3-speed manual into it from a 65 Dart (all bolt in!). F/R balance: 50/50.

With the V-8 suspension, lowered 2" front with maxed caster, 0 camber on 13" steel belt radials that little 2 dr would chase Vettes thru the twisties ... I couldn't match acceleration, but it was fun to see the surprised looks in their mirrors in the middle of a curve.
