As some of you know the 93 dakota is totalled. If everything checks out ok I will be buying a 96 v6 5speed rc sport. I plan on taking the 93 3.9 and doing a total rebuild with possibly a .30 overbore. For the whole combo to work, I really want to run my mopar pcm. But its a 92-93 deal only. So my question is how much work would it be to change the 96 to a 93? Swap in the 93 2-line fuel system, the motor, and the computer. I guess the whole 93 wire'n harness would be needed. I'm just thinking out loud right now since I dont actually have the other truck. Any one have any thoughts? And yes I know it would actually be illegal to do this but I dont care =P

well, In a perfect world I would have one of those. But I am without transportation and need something quick. Its fate that I found this 96, I was gonna buy a 4cyl fwd dodge the very next day, so I hope this 96 turns out to be nice. I also kinda like being the underdog, a 14sec v8..seen it, but a low 14sec n/a v6? thats interesting.

Well, I can't help you with your engine swap but I will say It's pretty damn cool to see somebody doing something different and modding a 3.9. That 93 of yours was one of the cooler trucks on this site. I'm sure the 96 will turn out great too.

Thanks man, I'm glad people appreciated my truck, I put alot of hard earned money and time into it. I was getting geared up to break into the 14's...but where it fell short the 96 will prevail. I just have to think of the 93 as a practise truck, the 96 is gonna be the real deal, low 14sec n/a v6. A vital part of that will be the mopar pcm though...it really woke up the 93. I dunno how much I'm going to have to change to get it to work though, hopefully it wont be that bad. The 96 is a obd2 truck though, so I guess I'll just have to wait and see.
Now I'm all excited, if I dont end up getting this 96 I'm gonna be pissed =P

If you use the '93 motor, you'll need all the electronics and wiring harnesses and be prepared to do some "home-engineering" if the speedometer/gauges don't work right. I know you had one heck of a six, and I've always thought the stock 3.9 had a lot more potential(you proved it). Bore a 3.9 to 4.08 and stoke it to4.00"...eat S-10's alive!

OK im gonna do some thinking out loud here to..
First the fuel line, that shouldnt be to much of a problem, using the two line system. Would the gas tanks be the same? I know on my 96 the regulator and the pump are all in the tank. But its all connected to that round cap. So maybe you can justtake that out, and replace it with the 93 one. Also the 96 wiring harness and 93 are different. Which im sure you know. The 93 is one big plug where the 96 is 3 samller ones. (the plugs that go into the computer) also with the obd I and II. Now my question or thought is this, Is it really worth it to change out the entire harness? On my truck since there were 3 plugs, all I did was replace the engine harness. But on the 93s is it all connected. Also it might be expensive, but less headache, can you get a 96 v6 computer flashed from KRC maybe??? This is something me and you will have to brainstorm over thru AIM, tonight maybe. I have free long distance on my cell phone to. Ill talk at you later.

Well a little good news is the '96 is the last OBD I, when the Gen III '97's came out they were OBD II.(Unless you've got a "California/NY" emmisions truck, then I don't know)

Well your only the second person I have heard say this. I have a 96 and it had 2 O2 sensors one before the cat, and one after, so wouldnt that make it OBD II??? It was built in Aug of 95. I was told by someone else that some of the 96 were OBD I and some OBD II, it just depended on the build date??? I bought my truck new back in 96 and got it here in FL.
Anybody else now about this? I have a friend in cali with a 96 Dak and his is OBD II.

Thanks for the input guys. ryan, I have never heard of KRC or anyone else having a v6 custom flash available. I have a intake manifold off a 96 v6 in my garage. It had the egr tube and everything on it but a blockoff plate was bolted on where the egr valve would go. I figures that models without the egr valve were considiered obd2. It may be allot more work than its worth to change it from a 96 to a 93, but for this motor to work right I need somekind of custom pcm, the motor is gonna make good power up past the factory rev limiter. I wonder is there is anyone out there that has done the swap.

Dakracer, your bud in Calf. got the Cal emissions pkg.(so did states that border on Cal. or NY). The easy way to tell OBDI from II is under the hood on the "tune-up data" sticker.II's will say "NO ADJUSTMENT" on all the tune-up items listed. Many times dealers will "trade" Cal. cars for non-Cal cars. In the "Blue Book" there's a $500 bonus for non-Cal. equipted Dakota(minimum).
