Default performance HAULER

I thought some of you guys might want to see the new tow rig. It's new to me, but I know it well. It was my Dad's.

He really used to enjoy giving the finger to guys with cummins diesel trucks, when they tried to pass him on the hill.(tried!)

74 dodge d200, club cab Dad bought her new in 74.

originally, metalic green, 360, 4speed, no options(radio delete even) other than a set of camper springs.

Now red, 440 452 heads, carter avs, custom ac, and an industrial 5 speed transmission.

All the torque in the world. will cruise 70 mph at 3200 rpm, and no need to downshift.

Twin fuel tanks and you need them both!

Sounds like it works real good. I'd like to get a dually about that year for a tow rig.

Dad always wanted to make this one a dually. I don't think i'll bother. If I spiff it up any more, I'll put on some alloy wheels or something.

The industrial 5 speed gives you lots of gear choices, but, the throw on the shifter is quite long. Like driving a grain truck. I think you can see an elevator in the back of one of the pics

what is the ratio in 5th ?

IF you have all the torque in the world ??....why run it at 3200 on a cruise?

5th is 1:1 on an industrial trans.

We Bumped the diff ratio up, when installed. It used to cruise @55mph at 3200.

With the rv trailer on, thats a good rev to be at(3200@70mph). still more power to pass on the mountain hills around here, and a reasonable cruising speed.
