i have acutally enjoyed reading this thread. tips and tricks to gain a little here and there without sacrificing power. if you can have the same power with just a mpg or two more it helps and adds up. fun to experiment with things like this.

By bowl shaping the screen you increase the open area but I contend that there will still be some restriction. In a street driven engine where max power is not a priority I can understand experimenting but on a race engine there will be a power loss with little or no potential benefit. -Bob

I used a lot of those 3/4 race cams back in the day........
An old buddy of mine just stopped by this past weekend with a 1969 Camero that i built with that cam. Still running strong after 14 years on it......

BTW pcrmike, where did you get the cupped screen from? Or did you make it yourself?

I have 2 of those. One for my new coffee maker, one from the old. Set it inside the funnel to strain carb cleaner etc.

That screen is way too fine. You need something a step up in coarseness or two from window screen.

What is the reason in the ad for the screening? Anything?

Same theory as before, you break up large low velocity fuel droplets into finer particles. It is the surface of the gas that burns as it is in contact with O2 so the finer the droplet, the more efficient it will burn. Drop a barrel of flaming gasoline and it'll look like a napalm strike, atomize that same barrel of gasoline a split second before ignition and it'll look and act like a small nuke.

Guy in a truck forum installed these and no other changes and swore up and down about them, he said they increased his low end torque substantially, was able to break the rear tires loose at will which never happened with the old gaskets and he had to jet down 2 jets to keep his aftermarket o2 meter at stoich at idle. picked up 40% better mileage, from 8-10 to 14 (could have been from smaller jets or just new gaskets) after a 400 mile road trip. 6 months later he was still up on them, his last post was "screens blew out, dont buy them..." quite a 180 from his raving posts. Another drag racer guy lost a screen and wiped his cylinder wall with it, toasting a cylinder and a piston. Another guy had run them for 10 years with no problems in a stock 350 Suburban. You make the call. Just google "torque plus"
