.030 is rule of thumb, sonic check it if more is needed. I would not bother myself because you have the cubes to do it with. Now you need well flowing heads, a good size cam and carb ontop of a good intake.
Hey, it just came to me, at the last sentence, Edelbrocks web site has a article called"Feeling light headed" where theres a 500 or so HP build up. i'll see if I can find it. BRB. Ehhh, can't find it. But it was a (From memory) 3,58 stroked .030 over 340 for 372 cubes, the RPM package with a Comp 305 Hyd. cam, fully ported heads and I think they stepped up to a 800 Holley for 500 HP. |

You can go .060 over on all of them, but like any other block you should sonic check it for core shifts. |

Maybe someone else has it. (Hint hint) |

The early 360 blocks 1971-73 are the ones that are the better castings. You can go up to .060, but you should have it tested.

it is a 1972 block. when i took the heads off i took the caliper to the bores. some of the bores came out to 4.020 but most came to 4.030. i dont know what to think.

Bore size listed is 4.000 for the 360 with the factory overboreing it up to .020. A .030 I would consider worked on by someone.

71-72-73 360's
used the same thickness as the 340. Therefore 4.04 would be the same as a 340 and .060 over would be like a 340 bored out .020. Unless there is some really bad core-shift you have the best 360 block to come out of the factory.

And there's the school of thought that thin walls resulting from big overbores are not as stable as thicker walls - possibly negating the SLIGHT power increase and certainly affecting the life expectancy of the engine. A .030 overbore on a 360 gets you 5.5 cu. in., less than 2%.What's that translate to in power increase?

But that is the beauty of the block in question........
It has the best ever offered from the factory. Without core shift, he can bore it out to .040 over to clean up everything and still have a block that has the thickness of a brand-new 340 block and can still be bored another .060 if needed. Yes, many of these blocks have been bored to 4.1000 and ran sucessfully.
Most of these blocks were hunted down many years ago. Go's to show that all the good things aren't gone yet. All you have to do to see how desireable these are is to offer it for sale. Then it will become clear how much everyone wants one. Is the block for sale? |

what is the blook worth? the heads are j heads with 2.02 valves.I took the engine apart because when i took a compression test it had 90 to 95 pounds of compression.i thought that was way low.when i bought the car i was told it had 10 to 1 compression.

It's not a 10 to one engine, it's a worn out 8.5 to 1 engine. The block is not worth any more than any otehr 360 block. Bare a hundred or two. I can find as many as you want. I have a shop full of them myself. Those heads are worth some money though. You'll want to hang on to those. It's the best small block head just short of an edel aluminum or a W2.
