Default Flywheels (again)

What's the lightest everyone is comfortable with on a 10.5 steel flywheel? 2900lb 3.9 V6. I want to get as much as I can out of it without paying for it in the long run.

I finally found the bellhousing I've been looking for so I can switch out the 11" truck flywheel.

I think 10000 rpm makes around a 10# steel flywheel

I used the stock appearing 10.5 set up from 10,000 RPM for many years on our 3500 lb 440 Dakota. It is a very nice set-up.

They changed the rules so I had to swap to the Mopar 18 lb steel flywheel. This setup worked fine also-just not as light.

10000 rpm makes the best set up talk to Becky Hamilton (661) 942-1312 or sales@10000rpm.com tell her Mike Nicks recommended them. Just ran my car this weekend for the first time with my new 10.5 clutch and flywheel and it made a world of difference.

So, Lon, are you saying the 18lb flywheel you're currently running is a stock flywheel cut to 18lbs?

That 10000rpm setup looks sweet. Maybe next year...lol.

STOCK AUTOMATICS or 3, 4, or 5 speed transmissions ONLY!! No racing transmissions, Brinn or
Bert’s or T.C.I. Powerglide automatics. When the clutch pedal is pushed in the truck must not move. When
the clutch is left out the truck must move. All manual transmission trucks must have a working clutch. No
aluminum flywheels, stock clutch and stock flywheel only. Scatter shield recommended.

This is how my rules are written. I don't really think I could get away with the 10000rpm clutch. It says nothing about cutting weight out of the stock part.

LFD,

The 18 lb flywheel was available thru Mopar Performance. It is a machined billet steel piece. If I remember correctly, it cost around $350-400.

I checked a couple of years ago, but they were discontinued/waiting on supplier to make more.

Ok. Thanks. I dropped mine off at the machine shop. I was told it weighed 18lbs when I bought it, but it actually weighs 23. Hopefully they can get a little more out of it. Even if it's 20lbs it will be significantly better than the 11" wheel I'm using now.
