Default 360 timing chain

Anyone got recommendations of a decent double roller chain that doesnt' cost a fortune?
I've heard of some not lasting long, and a buddy of mine has one on his 360 that's
already showing wear. This is for my FifhAvenue which sees only street use.

Also, anyone have any experience with the tensioner that's out now? Is it worth the $$
to use it? Any cons on it (like does the tension affect how the chain wears or anything
like that?) Does it work with any chain? How can you check the slack that the chain
actually gets?

I'm going to be dealing with this sometime before the spring (when the car will hopefully
be painted) and I don't want to have to get the job done again too soon in the future.

I think summit racing sells their own name brand double roller timming chain and it's fairly inexpensive (Maybe $40?)
The chain tensioner would be over kill on a nearly stock engine.

Actually, I went to PAW for mine. Double roller for SB Mopar comes in around $30 and seems to work just fine for me.

Pay for what you get sometimes. I use cloyes. Still waiting for it to wear out.

i use cloyes, great insurance. if your under .450" lift though it probaly isnt real critical

Who has got the tensioner? I always thought that would be a good idea on any timing chain on a V8, makes sense on the slack side.

Mopar makes the tensioner, Id like to know how it holds up and if it's really worth it.

Are the mopar chains any good? Some people are telling me they are yet I've heard before that they have been known to wear prematurely.

I guess basically any timing chain would do me, but I want to make sure I don't have to do the job again too soon in the future.

The part # for the tensioner is Mopar 53021195AA if you can find a copy of the Feb.issue of Mopar Action it shows how to install it and gices all the parts numbers........Randy

I have a tensioner,the reason you need one is that the geometry on a sb timing chain is less than ideal which actually induces chain stretch,so rather than let the chain gets sloppy its better to keep it under slight tension so theres less of a variable in cam/ignition timing,itll still stretch but it wont get sloppy.BBs dont need one.........PRO........

pro, how do you like it? Does it look like a decent thing to use, good quality?

Can you check slack in it? I was wondering how to check if the chain is excessively worn.

Yes its a quality piece,it will absorb about a 1/8-1/4" of slop after that itll youll be able to check it and tell its worn,after 8,ooo miles I had detectable slop so it should help me go around 20-25K w/o any probs,remeber I shift at 68oorpms with a 4 spd......PRO.....
