Default Dead Dodge

she's looking pretty rough......but i'm gona try to bring her back

got a engine ready , cutting it up to see what i have to work with

bent the top, hood and fenders at Rock Rapids about 4 years ago, gonna patch this one up and try to build another for me and my buddies to hammer around in

was wondering what tires?

IMCA Hobby Stock is the class, need some street tires, 205 -75 .....what works good. just some used ones with about half the tread?

if i get serious on the other car, are new ones the way to go?

if so what kind am i looking for?

Primewell PS850 seem to be the hot ticket now. We were using Goodyear Regatta's, but they got discontinued a year or so ago. Another guy told me he really likes the Yokahama Avid TRZ's, but we havent tried 'em yet.

so it doesent matter if they are new or used off a street car?
some info i ran across a few years ago said that with the full tread depth, there is a condition called "tread squirm", and you should have the tires shaved to half the tread depth.
not a big deal anymore?

Default tread squirm

if youre running asphalt, you should shave the tires if you are using new
if you are on dirt, tread squirm shouldn't be a factor, as the tires will bite into the track

Get 'em on a dryslick track and the tread will wear off soon enough on it's own!

got the Primewell 205 / 75's
what do i do for tubes?
do i run them tubeless?
wheels, i'll use some budget DOT White Spokes, IMCA says;21# min. and DOT Only, what i have are 23#
so i guess thats my only option

Get some radial tubes and tube them. I use baby powder inside the tire and on the tube. It acts as a lubricant so the tube can twist in the tire. It works really well makes it easier to just slide the tube in even. Much better than doing it dry.

I've seen people up here try to do it tubeless, but when they run such low pressures the tire peels right off the bead. Usually wrecks the tire too.

I wont run a tube, just another 15 dollars down the drain when the tire gets cut down, plus putting a tube in a skinny tire is no fun.
Radial tires are not designed for low pressures. I run 35 on the right side and 25 on the left, and I really should air the left up a little as they wear funny. Those skinny tires really like air, no tread over on the side wall or rim. You only have like 6 inches of tread and if it is folding over and running on the sidewall, what are you gaining.
White spoke wheels cost just as much as a bassett wheel, unless you already own them, then nevermind.

35 Right

25 Left

i have a Tire Pyro Temp Gauge , what am i looking for?

Car is heavy ( 3300#)

even temp across the tire, and even wear. If the sidewall are bald, you need more air, but I think youll be alright.

Pinching a tube on a skinny tire sucks.
just be sure to tell everyone that you are only running 12 pounds on the right side, then watch out for them as they blow tires, lol.

cool, i'll remember the air pressure thing

also , was wondering about valve stems

i may be able to find some more of these short brass ones, or is it really necessary?

I wont run them either, as they snap right off, no give.
On white spokes I weld up the hole and move it in so it isnt so easily ripped off. might be tough on a 7 inch wheel, not much room. But an inch is better than where it is now.

how do i get the bead close enough to get the tire to take air?

i tried a small ratchet strap to put pressure on the tread to help get the side walls out ... but not enough

there is a tool called the "cheetah" its an air tank with a 1 1/2" pipe thread nipple, a ball valve and another pipe flattened down to like 1/2". thats the proper tool for the job, if you don't have a tire machine with a bead blast.

Ive used an ox acetlyne torch and done it the same way as ether. put the gas in the tire , lit the torch an waved it past the top of the tire... REALLY REALLY DANGEROUS!! probably even stupid! only takes a very small amount. tire still jumps a foot off the ground! this is like mounting tires with tnt.

ether wont even make the tire move, so it isnt that bad. Acetylene is a bad bad bad idea.
Those cheetahs dont work so well on skinny little tires, and they are noisy too. A can of ether fits in a tool box too.
Key to it is just use a little, dont fill the tire up, your just wasting it.

Everyone probably knows this already. Take the core out of the valve when trying to seat the beads.

The problem is the skinny tires on to wide of a wheel the core wll eve matter asthe beads like to touch each other, not the wheel lip. so the only thing a core rmoval will do is drain your air compressor faster.
