transfer case trouble
My Trailduster is going to be the financial death of me, lol.
As I'm going down the road, at random times, the 4WD shifter emits a grinding noise as if it's trying to engage. 1980 Plymouth Trailduster 440 (from 1978 Dodge motor home) New Warn hubs (manual) This does Not have the full time 4WD, it's manual lock in/out Any ideas? |

'80 should have part-time 4WD vacuum actuated.
I'd guess a fault in the vacuum switch is causing it to try to engage. |

Try adjusting the shifter linkage

I'm thinking linkage also. It's manual all the way. someone had mentioned a chain inside that may be loose.

Ok, it's a New Process 208 manufactured in Syracuse NY on 12/17/79
looks like a plastic piece inside has shredded. Looks to be 40W oil in it. Update: It's the range fork. Plastic tabs got ground up inside. Everything else is intact. |
