Biggrin Flathead rebuild suggestions

Any suggestions for a rebuild on a 230 flathead? I have not rebuilt one before, although I have done some V-8's. I know to be sure to replace the water distribution tube, balance the bottom end, and have heard the tricks about using small block generic motors head bolts to replace the stockers. I have heard that the valves from a generic motors will replace the 218 valves for half the price, but will they work in a 230? This is for my old 57 that I am too emotionally attatched to and I don't want to put my 340 or 440 into it.

I am a good ways off from being able to afford to rebuild it, but want all the advice I can get before I pull the plug on cruising in her. This car has been in my family since new, and the motor has never been rebuilt, so I want to do it right the first time.
