RTV Silicone?
I'm putting new intake gaskets my 318 and was wondering if the high-temp Red RTV Silicone would work on the sheetmetal gaskets instead of the black stuff provided. I ran out of the black stuff and don't have time to run down to the store to get more, but I have a bunch of the red stuff left. From what I've read the only difference is oil resistance, but I'm most likely going to be swapping out this intake for a 4-bbl one in a couple weeks anyway. Can I just do it now, or should I wait until I can get some of the black stuff?
EDIT: Nevermind, I don't think I have enough of the red stuff anyway. I guess you guys can just discuss different kinds of silicone and sealers anyway. |

If we need to discuss it...
Petrol melts RTV silicone. Sorry, 'gas' melts the stuff. No good on inlets, okay on exhausts. |

I've put a [tiny] bead across & below the intake ports and of corse at water cross overs on sb's.
Mainly when milling has been done or swapped around different heads/intakes cause I have had , like some, oil in the intake from valley due to gasket leakage from poor gasket to bad milling geometry. BTW I like to use black or copper RTV |

I always spray the stamped steel gaskets with copper coat, it doesn't squeeze out into the port. A dab of RTV at the corners just past the hold down strips is good also.
