Question

I am in the process of building a 360 for my tow vehicle. what combinations are you guys using
and what do you think? hughes cam and heads, lift and duration? edelbrock performer package?
mopar performance cam and intake? I would like to save some money and headaches by asking first
and building later. looking for max torque and mid range power. Right now i am leaning towards the
edelbrock package but would welcome any suggestions THANKS

Question

Why do you want all the mods for a tow vehicle? A set of mildly ported J heads and edelbrock performer rpm and a small rv cam..and of course headers . Trans and oil coolers. What truck are you using? I did the same with a 440 in a 77 street van and it worked perfect...12miles per gallon..loaded. Have 360 mag. in 94 Dak I use now.

I would suggest running a roller can if you can. They free up alot of power. Other than that I think that I'd Just clean up the cylinders with a .010 bore and a set of JE pistions. I would probably run the edelbrock heads. That way you can run a 10:1 compression ratio and still run easily on pump gas. Run a dual plane aluminum intake. I perfer trying to stay with Mopar. I would run a 600 cfm carb. (I perfer holley). Run a good set of headers. As for a cam I would run something with a .450" lift and about a 108 degree lobe seperation. Even with a hydraulic lifter cam I would expect about 380 ft-lbs torque and about 350 hp. And More like 420 ft-lbs torque and 400 hp with a roller. That's what I got from my desktop dyno. Hope that gives you some Idea

Thumbs up

My 360 has flattop KB cast pistons. Comp 252H r/v cam that lifts .425. I have a 3 angle valve job and didn't have the time to find swirl port heads. Compression is a power and mileage maker. I run a Jacobs ignition and I will be adding an uphill power module. I have a Offenhauser dual port intake with a TQ. I use this as a daily driver and put 130+ miles aday on it. I carry 600 lbs of tools and supplies and then I add sometimes 1200 lbs of carpet and padding. This set up doesn't even know it has this load on it. My rig is a 79 3/4 ton van.
