Default Answers To "25 Post Count" Questions

A growing problem we have, typical of many popular boards, is that spamming has increased due to web bots and malicious programming.

The number of spam posts we received every day would astonish you. Most came in the wee hours of the night when most people are sleeping and board activity is low.

It is during that time period when most of the administration team would burn the midnight oil to purge and preen the board. Sometimes it was an overwhelming task.

There were attacks by malicious new users, no doubt computer generated, that posted URL links to porn sites or virus infections. Keeping these off the board was very difficult.

The change to require a 25 post threshold before URLs or photos can be posted was implemented to protect the board and to ensure that new members were truly interested in becoming part of the Moparchat family.

We still get spam attacks, but at least the number has reduced to a more manageable level and URLs and porn pictures are no longer an issue.

We regret that any new member feels inconvenienced, but it is a small price to pay for a worthwhile endeavor.

As a side note, those who post repetitive messages just to run the count up might find that, lacking worthwhile content, their posts may not "stick".

That seems fair enough, as an occasional viewer and, up until now, no time poster I can take that on the chin no problem.

However, what's with the "no viewing attachments until post count of 10 or more" ??? that seems pretty weird.
I log in when possible or am sometimes directed to a particular thread from other boards (I am active on two other Mopar boards and also have a car to rebuild so I have to draw the line somewhere), so I was a bit upset to find I now can't view some of the attachments in tech posts etc unless I have made 10 posts.

Well this is now #2 but making me post for the sake of it probably isn't helping everyone!!

Did I miss something???

I can't answer that question about viewing attachments. Agreed, it does seem weird, but it may be a non-adjustable feature of the software. I will check with Administration and get back to you.

Dick:

I also have a problem with board, I can't open a new thread. If I try, I get a message saying that I am not authorized to do so.

If keeping moparchat family friendly is the goal, how come I've been here over the past few days and always see that ad for the "#1 site for college girls" website showing the two hot chicks making out?

I can't answer that because I use an ad blocker that takes all the ads out.

On the other hand, maybe the girls followed you here.

Yes, a reply is considered a post. Unnecessary posts are usually removed if it is obvious the posts have little content or are being stacked up to reach 25.

Welcome to the board. I am sure you will reach 25 posts in a reasonable period of time.

Ah ha, that would explain why I could not upload pics of my car in another post.
Good I guess.

No, dumb is when you don't know that it would be plain dumb. You don't care for our structure? Feel free to visit those other boards.

FYI, the software here has been in use for many, many years. Most reasonable people are comfortable with it. You are a guest here and we only ask that you abide by the rules.

I was wondering why all my posts have dissapeared.
It is a pain, but I also understand. I am not one to put up many posts but a few articles have my attention which I would like to respond with links or attachments but can't until I hit 25.
Now I need to start all over again, what a pain.

Hey, no problem. No harm done. Sometimes navigating around on the board it's easy to overlook something.

Sorry, it still is 10 posts. However, I strongly advise against making "post count" entries because they will probably disappear. That is outlined in the rules of the board.

Most were made a minute or two apart. It was obvious what you were doing, twice.

I sent you the link PM so we wouldn't have to discuss it openly. However, you chose to respond in public. No problem, everyone here knows the rules and they (eventually) abided by them. BTW, those rules were made long before my time, when the board was first initiated. I had no hand in their creation, but it is a viable system to hold spamming to a minimum.

If your rush is to post pix, you can post them right away as attachments. That is also covered in a sticky thread in Off Topic.
