Default 360/408 stroker motor for towing?

I need to redo the engine in my Dodge conversion van and I have been looking into going with a stroker crank in the 360.

This is primarily a tow rig and I am looking for a bit more get up and go up the hill here in the Pacific North West.

Any comments or suggestions?

Right now the plan is to bore and stroke it to 408, proper torque cam, Performer intake and exhaust that will flow better.

The boat and trailer that I tow total out to about 4500 lbs.

I was thinking hte same thing, and chose to go with the 390 (4" 318) for cooling/reliability reasons.
Just all my opinion though.
What gears?
What year heads?
What is your desired RPM range?

dodgetruckboy, do you think you will have more meat in the wall of a 090" over 318 than a 030" or 040" 360? not having a go at you, just wondering if you know something i dont...

Why would you need to bore a 318 .090?
318's have more cylinder wall cooling.
I believe it will be stronger, the cylinders are pretty close on a 360.

If you can find a 73 -75 360 that would be the best block to use. It is the transition from the 340 and has thicker walls in it. I had one years ago when I was going to do the same thing and my dumb ass let it go. The only real problem that the 360's had was oil pres. There are things you can do to improve the oiling system in them but that is another story.

71 -74, but that debate will go on and on.
a 390 is a 318 block, 30 over right, no big deal
boring it 90 would make it a 4 inch bore, and I have heard of it being done, just havent done it my self. Pistons are cheaper, but you might have to go thru three blocks to find a good one.

Go for it, get some closed chamber heads, make it 9 to 1 and your good to go.

Thanks, I don't think finding an older block will be much of a problem as my bud is a Square body Dodge truck nut.
Mine is probably cooked anyhow as it had been severely overheated before I got it. (Price was Right). It has the tow package but I'm not sure of the rear gears. One more thing to add to the list.
