Default Kick down band

I want some opinions on the 2nd gear band and if you prefer a flex band or solid.
This is for a street performance application with raised line pressure.
Which band holds the best and lasts longer.

There is a member named "Transfixleo" who could likely give you the best answer. I haven't seen him on the board for a while though. I think if I remember correctly, the B&M kit that went into my 727 2 years ago had the flex band. I can't say for sure. You might want to call TCI, B&M, or other tech lines to see what they recommend..............djs

I would not use the b&m junk. Best call TCI. The solid band is a better piece to use. BEst is the kevlar race band.

"Best" is a matter of personal taste.
For a street (or mild competition) transmission, there's nothing wrong with a flex band. The thin backing of the flex band will allow it to distort and grab the drum more firmly while the rigid band can cock to one side and allow only partial lining contact with the drum. Also, most flex bands have oil slots to allow the fluid trapped between the band and drum to escape when the band is applied; less slippage.
The red lining material is my personal choice, Kevlar has a reputation for glazing if allowed to slip.
You'll find that the major trans parts houses aren't equipped for the friction material bonding process, they farm this out or purchase off-the-shelf components. It's quite possible that the brand name that one prefers and the brand name that one labels as "junk" both come from the same source.
Rather than getting hung up on the brand name silliness, you might consider buying from a neutral party such as:

"solid" is better.

And kevlar is alot of hype EXCEPT in very high rpm shift situations.

I built a 727 for my 360 powered Dodge tow van using a flex band and it has held up fine. I tow a '24 box trailer with race car and have at least 25,000 miles on it so far and it shifts nice & tight into second. The trans has no other modifications.
