converting dakota to carb
i've got a 93 or so dakota that orginally had a 318, but theres a 360 out of a 96 or so ram in it now, and well for one theres an issue with the fuel system that made it not run right, something to do with the 360 needed a return or something, i'm not sure,, and then theres the issue where the engine wiring harness got wrapped around the front drive shaft and well you can imagine how that came out, and then the guy that had it wired it all up with the same color wire and theres some issues and its hard to figure out whats going on when everything is the same color, so i'm thinking why not just go ahead and put a good dual plane on it with a 600 edelbrock, but my question is what do i do as far as the od trans, and everything else??? and what about distribitor?? i'm thinking about running just a regular old school electronic ignition, but doesn't the computer control that transmission???

For a distributor just get an electronic with 4 pin module, harness, and ballast resistor. For the Trans only 4th gear and the lockup convertor are controlled by the pcm. You can either install a toggle switch and control them manually or use a set up like this.

If the transmission is a '96 it is computer controlled, if it's a '95 or earlier only the OD and converter clutch are electric. The '96 will have an 8-pin connector, the '95 will have a 2 or 3-pin.

the trans is the original 4x4 trans out of the dakota, only the engine was swapped.... if i didn't wire anything for the trans would it still work and just act like a 3spd?? its basically just a hunting truck so i don't really go drive it daily or anything like that

Yes it would just be a 3 speed. You don't have to get all fancy with switches if you want to keep it simple a toggle switch could control it when you need OD.

Is there any reasonable way to convert a 94 5.2 liter from EFI to a carbureted system? I'm having a **** ton of problems with my computer
